Public Service Senior Examination.

NOTICE is hereby given that, in consequence of the decision of the Board of Education, London, to discontinue the holding of its Science Examinations in the Dominion, the 1917 examinations in subjects (43) Applied Mechanics I (Materials and Structures), (44) Applied Mechanics II (Machines and Hydraulics), and (49) Building Construction, of the Public Service Senior Examination will be held in January, and not in July as hitherto.
After the completion of the examinations held in the present month no further examination will be held in subjects (11a) Practical Mathematics, (11b) Practical Geometry and Graphics, (47) Heat Engines, and (48) Machine Construction and Drawing, of the Public Service Senior Examination program.

Notice of the Date of Examinations under the Control of the Director of Education.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned examinations will be held on or about the dates specified in each case:-
Senior National Scholarship Examination : 22nd November, 1916, and following days.
Intermediate Examination for Senior Free Places in Secondary Schools and District High Schools : 22nd November, 1916, and following days.
Junior National Scholarship : 30th November, and 1st December, 1916.
Junior Free Place (including the examination for Junior Free Places in Technical Schools) : 30th November and 1st December, 1916.
Teachers' Certificate Examinations, Class C and Class D : 5th January, 1917, and following days.
Entries must be made as follows :-
For Junior and Senior National Scholarships and Junior Free Places, through the Head Teacher of the school to the Secretary of the Education Board, up till the 8th September.
For the Intermediate (Senior Free Place and Drawing Only) Examinations, through the Head Teacher to the Director of Education, Wellington, up to the 8th September.
(Late applications for the four above examinations, accompanied by receipts for the payment of a late fee of 10s. to a money-order office, will be received up to the 22nd September.)
For the Teachers' Certificate Examinations, to the Director of Education, Wellington, up to the 15th October, or with a receipt for payment of a late fee of £1 up to the 31st October.
All examination fees must now be paid at money-order offices, and the receipts forwarded with the applications.
All entries must be made on the proper forms, which may be obtained shortly from the office of any Education Board.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Commissioners appointed to classify and report upon pastoral runs mentioned in the Schedule hereto have reported to His Excellency the Governor that the said runs have been classified by them as noted therein.
SCHEDULE.
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.-NATIONAL ENDOWMENT.
Class A.-Pastoral Lands.
Being Lands suitable exclusively for Pasturage and not capable of being used with Profit in Areas of a Carrying-capacity of less than 5,000 Sheep.
RUN 206B, Maniototo County : Area, 12,220 acres.
Runs 228, 228A, 439, Maniototo County : Area, 56,780 acres.
Class B.
Being Lands adapted in Part for Pasturage and in Part for Agricultural Purposes, but suitable for Subdivision in Areas not exceeding 5,000 Acres.
Run 228B, Maniototo County : Area, 4,250 acres.

Pastoral Runs in Hawke's Bay Land District for License by Auction.
District Lands and Survey Office, Napier, 26th June, 1916.
NOTICE is hereby given that licenses for terms of twenty-one years over the undermentioned pastoral runs will be offered for sale at this office on Friday, the 8th day of September, 1916, at 2.30 o'clock p.m., under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Class A.
PASTORAL Run No. 20 : Area, 5,530 acres ; upset yearly rent, £104 16s.
Altitude, from 600 ft. to 3,500 ft. above sea-level. About 3,000 acres is fair country, undulating to hilly, mostly in fern, with patches of scrub; the balance is rough and poor, being high windswept tops and shingle slides facing the Ngaruroro River. Practically no fencing on run. There is a one-roomed whare and holding paddock near the centre of run. Situated about nine miles from Willowford, to which a bi-weekly coach service runs from Hastings thirty-six miles, and forty-two miles from Napier.
Pastoral Run No. 21 : Area, 6,390 acres ; upset yearly rent, £121 4s.
Similar to Run 20; about half fair country, undulating to hilly, in fern and scrub, and the balance poor and rough. There is about three miles of boundary fencing on eastern side of the Omahaki Stream.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned milling-timber will be offered for sale by public auction at the Land Office, Gisborne, at 11 o'clock a.m. on Saturday, 14th October, 1916, under the provisions of the Land Act and the Timber Regulations thereunder.
SCHEDULE.
HAWKE'S BAY LAND DISTRICT.
SECTIONS 41, 18, 19, 20, and 21, Block II, Motu Survey District.
Area of milling-timber : About 240 acres.
Timber : Rimu, kahikatea, matai, miro, and kaiwaka, approximately 4,500,000 sup. feet.
Upset price, £2,250.
CONDITIONS OF SALE.

The licence to cut and remove the timber will be sold generally in accordance with the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, the Timber Regulations made thereunder, and the following conditions, and may contain such additional conditions as the Commissioner in his discretion considers necessary in the interests of the Crown or of the public.
