Plants declared to be Noxious Weeds by the Ohakune Borough Council.—Notice No. 1828.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Ohakune Borough Council has, by special order, declared the following plants to be noxious weeds within the meaning of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, in the district under its jurisdiction: Giant burdock, gorse, broom, foxglove, St. John’s wort.

Plant declared to be a Noxious Weed by the Richmond Borough Council.—Notice No. 1829.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Richmond Borough Council has, by special order, declared goat’s-rue to be a noxious weed within the meaning of the Noxious Weeds Act, 1908, in the district under its jurisdiction.

Education Board Elections, 1916.—Division of Rural Area of Taranaki Education District into Wards.

IN accordance with the provisions of the Education Act, 1914, and of the Education Amendment Act, 1915 (No. 2), it is hereby publicly notified that the schedule setting forth the division of the rural areas into wards as published in the Gazette of the 24th February, 1916, is hereby amended by inserting the word “Puniho” after the word “Newall” wherever the latter occurs in the second and third paragraphs of that part of the schedule referring to the Taranaki Education District, the effect being to transfer the Puniho School from the South to the North Ward.

Appointment of Wharves and Examination-places at the Cook Islands.

IN exercise of the powers in me for this purpose vested by the Customs Act, 1913, I, Arthur Mielziner Myers, Minister of Customs, do by this Warrant given under my hand revoke the appointment of all existing wharves, legal landing and examination places at the Cook Islands, and do likewise appoint that on and from the date hereof—

(1.) The places enumerated in the second column of the First Schedule hereto shall be wharves for the lading and unlading of goods at the respective ports in the said islands mentioned in the first column of the said Schedule.

(2.) The buildings enumerated in the second column of the Second Schedule hereto shall be places for the examination of goods subject to the control of the Customs at the respective ports in the said islands mentioned in the first column of the said last-mentioned Schedule.

FIRST SCHEDULE.

WHARVES.

(1.) Name of Port. (2.) Place appointed.
Avarua, Island of Rarotonga The wharf belonging to the Union Steam Ship Company (Limited), together with the beach extending for a distance of 100 yards on either side thereof.
Alofi, Island of Niue The jetty at Tukaiavi, Alofi.

Avarua, Island of Rarotonga Cargo-shed belonging to the Union Steam Ship Company (Limited), situated adjacent to the wharf belonging to the said company.
Alofi, Island of Niue Shed situated on the road leading from the jetty at the Boat-channel, Alofi, to the Alofi main road.

Notice fixing the Closing-hours of Hairdressers’, Tobacconists’, and Hairdressers and Tobacconists’ Shops in the City of Christchurch, under the Shops and Offices Act.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’, tobacconists’, and hairdressers and tobacconists’ shops within the City of Christchurch, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the city shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: 10 p.m. on Saturday, 9 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. on the half-holiday, 6 p.m. on the other three nights: with the following exceptions—9 p.m. on the evening before Good Friday; 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and 9 p.m. on Thursday, during Carnival Week; 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday during National Week; 12 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve; 9 p.m. on Thursday for shops closing at 1 p.m. on Saturday:

And whereas the Christchurch City Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of hairdressers’, tobacconists’, and hairdressers and tobacconists’ shops within the City of Christchurch:

Now, therefore, I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 1st day of May, 1916, all hairdressers’, tobacconists’, and hairdressers and tobacconists’ shops in the City of Christchurch shall be closed at 10 p.m. on Saturday, 9 p.m. on Friday, and 6 p.m. on the three nights of the week other than Friday, Saturday, and the day observed as the half-holiday: with the following exceptions—9 p.m. on Thursday for shops closing at 1 p.m. on Saturday; 9 p.m. on the evening before Good Friday; 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and 9 p.m. on Thursday, during Carnival Week; 8 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday during National Week; 12 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

The notice gazetted on the 10th day of July, 1913, is hereby cancelled.
