A PPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 26th April, 1916, for the position of Manager, Female (also District Agent, Infant-life Protection, for Auckland-Taranaki District), Auckland Industrial School.

  1. Applications (to be made on P.S.C. Form 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secretary, Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. The applicant should be an educated lady between thirty and forty-five years of age, with a good knowledge of child nature, of kindly disposition, sensible, energetic, of good business capacity, and fully competent to undertake the general training of young girls and children.

  3. The principal duties are—

(a.) To give inmates of the school, as far as possible, such care and training as they should receive from parents, and generally to endeavour to fit them to take an honourable and useful place in society.

(b.) To direct the business of the school, including the control of the staff, the purchase of supplies, and the general household affairs of the institution.

(c.) To conduct the large amount of correspondence and the keeping of accounts, and to attend to the various office duties incidental to the management.

(d.) To select suitable foster-homes for the younger children, and places of service for the elder; to take all measures for their proper visitation and supervision, and generally to watch over their interests; in the one case to make payments to the foster-parents, and in the other to collect and account for wages.

(e.) To give effect generally to the requirements of the regulations controlling the industrial-school and infant-life-protection systems.

  1. There are about fifty children in residence, one hundred and thirty boarded out, and one hundred at service, &c.; and there are two hundred under supervision in foster-homes licensed under the infant-life-protection system.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the Educational Division. Salary, £280 per annum; maximum, £300; less £100 for board and quarters.

A PPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 27th April, 1916, for the position of Female Instructor and Teacher of Physical Training, Education Department, Wellington.

  1. Applications (to be made on form P.S.C. 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. Candidates must be over the age of twenty-one years, and must be prepared to undergo a physical examination by a medical officer appointed by the Public Service Commissioner.

  3. They must be of good general education, and must have a practical teaching-knowledge of physical exercises, including swimming.

  4. They must be prepared to undergo, if required, a practical examination in such physical exercises as are set forth in the “London Board of Education Syllabus, 1909.”

  5. After selection, instructors must attend a special course of instruction in the system, and such further courses as may be prescribed from time to time.

  6. The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

  7. The position will be graded in the General Division. Salary, £200 per annum.
