The excess of the departures from New Zealand over the arrivals therein during the month of March, 1916, was therefore 363 persons, as against 163 in the corresponding month of 1915.

  • It is important to mention that, in the returns from which this table is made up, immigrants to the Dominion are all counted at the first port of arrival, and emigrants at the final port of departure.

Applications invited for the Position of Working Housekeeper,
Moumahaki Experimental Farm, Department of Agriculture,
Industries, and Commerce.

Wellington, 4th April, 1916.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 18th April, 1916, for the position of Working Housekeeper, Moumahaki Experimental Farm, Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce.

  1. Applications (to be made on P.S.C. Form 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. The duties appertaining to the position are to supervise and be responsible for the following matters at the homestead and learners’ quarters, but not at the farm hands’ quarters:—
    (a.) The cooking and serving of meals (including those for about twenty farm hands):
    (b.) The proper requisitioning and use of all domestic stores required:
    (c.) The work of the domestic staff employed:
    (d.) The cleanliness and order of all beds and premises generally:
    (e.) The washing and keeping in repair of all bed linen and learners’ underclothing.

  3. Applicants for the position should be of some refinement, and capable of controlling about half a dozen boys, and must, in addition to general supervision, be prepared to assist the domestic staff.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the General Division. Salary £110, maximum £120, per annum (£30 per annum deducted for board and lodging).
