TASMANIA.
WEST COAST.—WEST POINT.—NEW LIGHT.
Mariners and others are hereby notified that the new light on West Point will be exhibited experimentally on or about 1st June, 1916.
Position.—Lat. 40° 57′ S., long. 144° 38′ E.
Structure.—Steel skeleton tower, painted white.
Character.—Single flashing white light, showing one flash every 3 seconds—thus, flash 0·3 sec., eclipse 2·7 secs.
Remarks.—The light will be unwatched. Further notice will be given.

FIJI ISLANDS.
LEVUKA HARBOUR.—BEACON LIGHT AT ENTRANCE.
Notice is hereby given that a concrete tower has been erected on piles at the southern side of the main passage into Levuka Harbour. The whole of this structure is painted white, and is situated about half a cable’s length from the eastern edge of the southern reef; approximate latitude 17° 41′ south, and longitude 178° 52′ east.
From this tower will be exhibited on and after sunset of the 1st day of May, 1916, a Wigham occulting beacon light visible all around the horizon. The light will be white and of one occultation every three seconds (light two seconds, eclipse one second). The focal plane of the light is 26 ft. above high-water mark, and the light is visible from a ship’s deck for about six miles in clear weather.

Galloway Runs, Otago Land District, open for License by Application.

NOTICE is hereby given that the pastoral runs mentioned in the Schedule hereto are open for license, under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, and amendments; and applications will be received at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, 22nd May, 1916.
Applicants will have to appear personally before the Land Board for examination at the District Lands and Survey Office, Dunedin, on Wednesday, the 24th May, 1916, at 10 o’clock a.m.
The ballot will be held at the same place at the conclusion of the examination of applicants.
Preference will be given to soldiers either discharged or on active service, and to landless applicants who have children dependent on them or who have within the preceding two years applied for land at least twice unsuccessfully.
SCHEDULE.
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.—GALLOWAY RUNS.
Vincent County.—Tiger Hill, Manor, Long Valley, Cairnside, Cairnhill, and Teviot Survey Districts.
Run 565 (Class A): Area, 23,200 acres; term, twenty-one years; half-yearly rental, £112 10s.; valuation for improvements, £367 13s. (fencing).
The successful applicant will be required to take a license (expiring at the same time as the run license) under section 59 of the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, over the homestead-site on Galloway Settlement. Area, 62 acres; half-yearly rental, £7 8s. 6d.; valuation for buildings, £530. The valuation for buildings may be paid in cash, or in fourteen years by twenty-eight half-yearly instalments of £26 15s. 4d.
The successful applicant will be required to take a pastoral license for a term of twenty years from 1st March, 1918, over adjoining Run No. 565A, containing 4,660 acres, at an annual rental of £60. He will also be required to take grazing licenses from year to year until the areas are wanted by the Crown over 2,660 acres of fruit-growing reserve at an annual rental of £20, and 800 acres of afforestation reserve at an annual rental of £5.
This run comprises a series of rolling ridges, rising from an elevation of from about 640 ft. to 3,400 ft. The northern portions of the runs are rather dry and bare, but the southern or more elevated part has a very fair vegetation of tussock and the usual native grasses. The homestead area lies within half a mile of the Galloway Siding on the Otago Central Railway, and within half a mile of the Galloway School. There is permanent water in the Manorburn, and also in some of the other gullies. There are a number of good roads leading to and from the run.
The section is well watered by Manorburn and other creeks.
Run 566 (Class A): Area, 28,740 acres; term, twenty-one years; half-yearly rental, £137 10s.; valuation for improvements, £853 10s. (buildings, £525, fencing, £328 10s.).
The successful applicant will be required to take a license (expiring at the same time as the run license) under section 59 of the Land for Settlements Act, 1908, over the homestead-site on Galloway Settlement. Area, 57 acres; half-yearly rental, £4 19s.
This run comprises a series of rolling ridges, with an elevation of about 1,200 ft. to about 3,000 ft. The northern
