agree to an inspection being made and to pay the cost thereof he shall make application on form No. 3. After the application has been received by the Superintending Nurseryman an officer will be sent to visit the said area, and if it is deemed suitable for tree-growth the applicant will be advised regarding the exact location of the proposed plantation or shelter-belt, the preparation of the ground, the most suitable planting system, the varieties of trees, and the subsequent maintenance that may be necessary.
APPLICATIONS FOR INSPECTION.
- Persons desirous of obtaining expert advice and an inspection of the land before forming a plantation shall apply for same on form No. 3 appended to these regulations. Upon receipt of such an application the Department will advise the applicant as to the cost of the proposed inspection, which must be paid by the applicant before inspection. Such charge will include all locomotion, hotel, and travelling-expenses of the Inspector.
APPLICATIONS FOR SUPPLY OF LARGE QUANTITIES OF TREES.
- Persons desirous of obtaining more than a thousand trees in any one year must notify the Superintending Nurseryman two years previous to the commencement of the planting operations, so that provision may be made for growing the plants required. Applications of this nature should be made on form No. 2 appended to these regulations, and must be accompanied by a deposit amounting to 20 per cent. of the value of the trees ordered, balance to be paid on delivery of trees. If from any cause the applicant fails to take delivery of the trees during the year specified in the application the deposit may be forfeited. Whilst every endeavour will be made to fulfil the requirements set out in the application, no liability shall be incurred for the non-fulfilment of any order. In the event of only part of the order being supplied, the applicant shall be bound to accept delivery of such part and pay therefor at the price stated in the application form.
COST OF TREES.
- Trees will be supplied at such prices and in such quantities as may be fixed by the Superintending Nurseryman from time to time.
EARLY APPLICATION DESIRABLE.
- To facilitate preparation work, early application must be made, as the Department will probably be unable to supply trees to any person applying after the 31st July.
NO PREFERENCE TO APPLICANTS, OR GUARANTEE GIVEN.
- Applications will receive attention in the order of their receipt. Owing to the difficulty sometimes experienced in obtaining seed, no guarantee will be given that any specific quantity of trees will be supplied. While every effort will be made to supply such trees as will prove most satisfactory, no guarantee will be given as to the percentage of growth of the trees.
APPLICATIONS MAY BE REFUSED.
- The right is reserved to refuse any application for trees.
FUTURE CARE OF PLANTATIONS.
- (1.) A forestry officer will, if practicable and necessary, supervise the actual planting and maintenance of the trees supplied; but the travelling-expenses incurred by the supervising officer must be paid by the occupier of the land.
(2.) Any person who has purchased trees under the provisions of these regulations for the formation of a plantation must securely fence it from damage by stock, and the trees must be kept clear of grass or weeds and be properly attended to until they are safe from damage by these agencies. Should the trees become affected by disease or insect-pests, the Superintending Nurseryman must be notified.
RIGHT TO COLLECT SEED FROM TREES SUPPLIED.
- After the trees supplied have become sufficiently developed the right is reserved for the Superintending Nurseryman or any officer of his staff to gather seed and take such cuttings from trees supplied as may be desired.
