Minister’s Decisions under Customs Duties Act.

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Hon. the Minister of Customs has decided to interpret the Customs Duties Act in relation to the undermentioned articles as follows:—

NOTE.—“Not otherwise enumerated” appears as n.o.e.; “other kinds” as o.k.; “articles and materials suited only for, and to be used solely in, the fabrication of goods in the Dominion” as a. & m.s. Articles marked thus † are revised decisions.

The Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1908.—Notice of Proposed Cancellations of Registry.

NOTICE is hereby given that, pursuant to and in exercise of the powers in this behalf conferred upon me by section 22 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1908, the registrations of the industrial unions mentioned in the Schedule below will, unless cause to the contrary is shown, be cancelled at the expiration of six weeks from the date hereof.

Applications invited for the Positions of Manager and Housekeeper, Government Hostel, Hermitage.

APPLICATIONS will be received up till noon on the 21st November, 1916, from married couples, for appointment to the positions of Manager and Housekeeper respectively of the Government Hostel at Hermitage, Department of Tourist and Health Resorts.

  1. Applications (to be made on P.S.C. Form 17A, obtainable at principal post-offices) must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. Applicants must not be over fifty years of age last birthday, and should state earliest date they would be prepared to commence duty, if appointed.

  3. The principal duties are—
    (a.) Husband to be Manager of the hostel, and be the holder of accommodation-house license for sale of alcoholic liquors, supervise all outside work (including dairy herd and acetylene-lighting and bread-baking plants), act as Postmaster and telephonist, purchase supplies for hostel and mountain huts, conduct correspondence, and collect and account for moneys payable by visitors. (A clerical assistant will be provided by Department during summer months.)
    (b.) Wife to attend with the aid of servants to all indoor work and domestic management of the house.

  4. The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the General Division. Salary, £180 for husband and £100 for wife; with deduction in each case of £30 per annum for board and apartments.
