Result of Election of Trustees of a Drainage District.

THE following result of the election of Trustees of a drainage district has been received from the Returning Officer, and is published in accordance with the provisions of the Land Drainage Act, 1908.

Exportation of Hides.

Customs Department,
Wellington, 30th October, 1916.

IT is hereby notified, for public information, that the Minister of Customs has decided to permit the exportation to Canada of 10,000 hides, provided the same are to be used for military purposes and are consigned to the Minister of Trade and Commerce.

Applications to fill this quantity will be received by the Comptroller of Customs, Wellington, up to noon on Monday, 13th November, 1916.

This arrangement is made pending settlement of the total quantity of hides which can be allowed for exportation to Canada during the present year.

Any permits granted will be subject to allotment of the usual quota of hides, 45 lb. or upwards, at the fixed prices.

Removal of a Name from the Commission of the Peace.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased, in terms of section 7 of the Justices of the Peace Act, 1908, to direct the removal of the name of

ALFRED WALTER CHARLES LA ROCHE,

of Helensville, from the Commission of the Peace; and it is hereby notified that such name has been removed accordingly, and that such removal will take effect on and from the 2nd day of November, 1916.

Notice to Mariners No. 85 of 1916.

CENTRAL AMERICA.

CARIBBEAN COAST.—PANAMA.—COLON HARBOUR.—LIGHT-BUOY ESTABLISHED.

Position.—On the 17 ft. shoal, at a distance of 11·8 cables, 128° (S. 56° E. mag.), from Toro Point Lighthouse. Lat. 9° 22′ N., long. 79° 56¼′ W.

Description.—A cylindrical light-buoy surmounted by a pyramidal frame-work superstructure, painted in black and red horizontal bands, exhibiting an occulting red light.

Remarks.—The conical buoy formerly marking this shoal has been withdrawn.

Variation.—4° E.

Charts affected.—No. 3111, Colon Harbour; No. 657, Panama Canal and Railway.

PANAMA CANAL.

HARBOUR CHARGES.

Effective at once, a charge of 40 cents per bill-of-lading ton will be made for right of basin both at Cristobal and Balboa when cargo is transferred from ship to ship anchored in the harbour.

NOTICE TO STEAMSHIP LINES.

The Canal has in its organization all necessary wrecking equipment, and is prepared to undertake wrecking operations of any magnitude within the waters of the Canal Zone. In case of grounding or casualty necessitating wrecking operations within the Canal, all necessary gear will be supplied and operations undertaken immediately for the floating or removal of the vessel in distress. The charges for this will be at the regular rate, actual cost plus 10 per cent.

BRAZIL.

EAST COAST.—SAO JORGE DOS ILHEOS.—MORRO PERNAMBUCO.—LIGHT ESTABLISHED.

Position.—On Morro Pernambuco, lat. 14° 48′ S., long. 39° 1½′ W.

Abridged description.—(U) Lt. fl., ev. 3 sec., 177 ft., vis. 15 m. (posn. approx.).

Details.—Character: A flashing white light every three seconds—thus, flash, 0·6 sec., eclipse 2·4 secs. Elevation: 177 ft. Visibility: 15 miles. Structure: White iron mounting.

Remarks.—The light is unwatched.

Note.—The exact position of the light is not stated; pending the receipt of further information it is to be inserted on the summit of Morro Pernambuco.

ARGENTINA.

MOGOTES POINT LIGHTHOUSE.—FOG-SIGNAL ESTABLISHED.

Position.—Lat. 38° 7½′ S., long. 57° 29′ W.

Description.—A siren, operated by compressed air, giving one blast every minute—thus, blast 3 secs., silent 57 secs.

Chart affected.—No. 1324, Rio de la Plata to Cape Dos Bahias.

AUSTRALIA.

EAST COAST.—ISLAND POINT, PORT DOUGLAS.—INTENDED ALTERATION OF LIGHT FROM RED TO WHITE.

Mariners and others are hereby notified that the fixed red light on Island Point, Port Douglas, will be altered to fixed white on or about 2nd January, 1917.

Position.—16° 28′ south, 145° 29′ east.

Character.—Fixed white light.

Remarks.—The remaining details of the light are unaltered.

JAPAN.

GULF OF TOKYO.—NEWLY ESTABLISHED BEACON LIGHT HAS BEEN SHOWN.

Notice is hereby given that Ashika Jima Beacon light on Ashika Jima, Uraga Suido, Gulf of Tokyo, has been shown since the 24th of August, 1916.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Land in Otago Land District forfeited.

Department of Lands and Survey,
Wellington, 30th October, 1916.

NOTICE is hereby given that the lease of the undermentioned land having been declared forfeited by resolution of the Otago Land Board, the said land has thereby reverted to the Crown under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.
