The total births in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs amounted to 600, against 559 in June—an increase of 41. The deaths in July were 274—an increase of 37 as compared with the previous month. Of the total deaths males contributed 149, females 125. Fifty of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 18·25 per cent. of the whole number; 44 of these were under one year of age.

There were 106 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs, as against 92 in June. The following table shows the classification:—
