Native-School Teachers Salaries

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT—continued.

NATIVE-SCHOOL TEACHERS.

The salaries of Native-school teachers carry scale increases generally from the 1st January in each year. The salaries given are those for the calendar year 1915. The increases cannot be specified, as they are subject to varying conditions prescribed by the Regulations relating to Native schools. The salaries of uncertificated teachers are subject to a deduction of 10 per cent., and those of teachers who hold “licenses to teach” to a deduction of 5 per cent.; but in no case is a deduction made which would reduce the salary below £110 per annum, or below the rates paid on 31st December, 1910, in the cases of those teachers in the service on that date. “Salary maintained at higher grade” means that although the grade of the school has fallen, the grades of salary have been maintained in accordance with the provisions of the Native Schools Regulations and the Education Act, 1914.
