The total births in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs amounted to 659, against 566 in February—an increase of 93. The deaths in March were 239—an increase of 36 as compared with the previous month. Of the total deaths males contributed 127, females 112. Fifty-one of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 21.34 per cent. of the whole number: 44 of these were under one year of age.

There were 86 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs, as against 76 in February. The following table shows the classification:—
