Contraband of War.

HIS Excellency the Governor hereby notifies, for the information of the public, that His Majesty the King has, by Proclamation dated the eleventh day of March, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen, modified in manner following the list of articles which are contraband of war as set out in the Proclamation of the twenty-third day of December, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen, published in the New Zealand Gazette on the fourteenth day of January, one thousand nine hundred and fifteen.

ABSOLUTE CONTRABAND.

Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the said Proclamation of the 23rd day of December, the following articles are now absolute contraband in addition to the articles made absolute contraband by that Proclamation :—

  1. Raw wool, wool tops and noils, woollen and worsted yarns.
  2. Tin, chloride of tin, tin-ore.
  3. Castor oil, paraffin wax.
  4. Copper iodide.
  5. Lubricants.
  6. Hides of cattle and horses ; skins of calves, pigs, sheep, goats, and deer.
  7. Leather, undressed or dressed, suitable for saddlery, harness, military boots, or military clothing.
  8. Ammonia and its salts, whether simple or compound ; ammonia liquor.
  9. Urea, aniline, and their compounds.

CONDITIONAL CONTRABAND.

Tanning substances of all kinds are now conditional contraband.

The terms “foodstuffs” and “feeding-stuffs for animals” as used in the list of conditional contraband in the said Proclamation of the 23rd day of December shall be deemed to include the following articles :—

Oleaginous seeds, nuts and kernels.

Animal and vegetable oils and fats (other than linseed oil) suitable for use in the manufacture of margarine.

Cakes and meals made from oleaginous seeds, nuts, and kernels.
