Including the suburbs, the rate at Dunedin is the highest and at Christchurch the lowest.

The total births in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs amounted to 566, against 595 in January--a decrease of 29. The deaths in February were 203--a decrease of 15 as compared with the previous month. Of the total deaths males contributed 104, females 99. Thirty-six of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 17.73 per cent. of the whole number ; 31 of these were under one year of age.
There were 76 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs, as against 65 in January. The following table shows the classification :--
