New Zealand Expeditionary Force (Europe).—Grants of Temporary Rank, Appointments, and Promotions of Officers.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to approve of the undermentioned grants of temporary rank, appointments, and promotions of officers employed with the New Zealand Expeditionary Force (Europe) :—
NEW ZEALAND MOUNTED RIFLE BRIGADE.
Auckland Mounted Rifle Regiment.
Captain Charles Reginald Ernest Mackesy to be Major, vice Major Alfred Tattersall, certified by a Medical Board as unfit for active service for six months. Dated 16th July, 1915.
Captain George Augustus King, New Zealand Staff Corps, from Staff Captain, Otago Mounted Rifle Brigade, to be Major, and is appointed 2nd in Command, vice Major Frank Chapman (died of wounds). Dated 9th August, 1915.
2nd Lieutenant Walter David Ruddock to be Lieutenant, vice Lieutenant Holloway Elliott Winder (killed in action). Dated 9th August, 1915.
2nd Lieutenant Ewen John McGregor, Auckland Mounted Rifles, is temporarily appointed Machine-gun Officer, New Zealand Mounted Rifles Brigade, vice Captain Peter Bain Henderson, New Zealand Staff Corps (wounded). Dated 3rd September, 1915.
2nd Lieutenant Ewen John McGregor, Auckland Mounted Rifles, is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant while employed as Brigade Machine-gun Officer. Dated 13th September, 1915.
Lieutenant John Henry Herrold is granted the temporary rank of Captain, supernumerary to the establishment. Dated 15th August, 1915.
The following 2nd Lieutenants, having served the prescribed period in that rank, to be Lieutenants :—
Guy Spencer Cheeseman. Dated 24th February, 1915.
Douglas Gifford Moore. Dated 11th March, 1915.
Donald Alexander Finlayson. Dated 28th May, 1915.

Captain Norman Frederick Hastings to be Major, vice Major James McGregor Elmslie (killed in action). Dated 9th August, 1915.
Captain Charles Robert Spragg to be Major, vice Major Selwyn Chambers (killed in action). Dated 9th August, 1915.
Lieutenant Harry Thomas Palmer to be Captain (since deceased), vice Captain William James Hardham, v.c. (invalided). Dated 1st June, 1915.
Lieutenant John Adam Somerville to be Captain, vice Captain Charles Robert Spragg (promoted). Dated 9th August, 1915.
Lieutenant Henry Percy Taylor to be Captain (since killed in action), vice Captain Norman Frederick Hastings (promoted). Dated 9th August, 1915.
Lieutenant Robert Logan, New Zealand Staff Corps, to be Captain, and is appointed Adjutant, vice Captain and Adjutant Victor Albert Kelsall (killed in action). Dated 9th August, 1915.
Lieutenant William Janson is granted the temporary rank of Captain, supernumerary to the establishment. Dated 9th August, 1915.
Lieutenant Arthur Frederick Batchelar is granted the temporary rank of Captain, supernumerary to the establishment. Dated 9th August, 1915.
2nd Lieutenant Henry Beresford Maunsell to be Lieutenant, vice Lieutenant George Dyer Mayo (killed in action). Dated 9th August, 1915.
No. 7/592, Sergeant Hubert Arthur Hamilton, Canterbury Mounted Rifles Regiment, to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is appointed Signalling Officer, vice Lieutenant Robert Logan (promoted and appointed Adjutant). Dated 20th August, 1915.
2nd Lieutenant Norman Chambers Harris, having served the prescribed period in that rank, to be Lieutenant. Dated 26th December, 1914.
No. 16/515, Staff Sergeant-major Edward TingeY, New Zealand Permanent Staff, Maori Contingent, to be 2nd Lieutenant, and is appointed Machine-gun Officer, vice Lieutenant Norman Chambers Harris, absorbed into the establishment. Dated 20th August, 1915.
Canterbury Mounted Rifle Regiment.
Major George Frederick Hutton is appointed 2nd in Command, vice Major Percy John Overton (killed in action), and is appointed temporarily to command the regiment, vice Lieutenant-Colonel John Findlay (wounded). Dated 8th August, 1915.
Captain Herbert Clarence Hurst to be Major, vice Major George Frederick Hutton (appointed 2nd in Command of the Regiment).
Major George Hepburn Steward, Otago Mounted Rifles Regiment, is temporarily appointed to command the Regiment, vice Lieutenant-Colonel John Findlay (wounded), and is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while so employed.
Otago Mounted Rifle Regiment.
Major Robert Renton Grigor to be Lieutenant-Colonel, and is appointed to command the Regiment, vice Lieutenant-Colonel Arthur Bauchop, C.M.G. (died of wounds). Dated 9th September, 1915.
Captain Hubert Cecil Glendining, New Zealand Staff Corps, to be Staff Captain, vice Captain George Augustus King, New Zealand Staff Corps (promoted and appointed 2nd in Command of the Auckland Mounted Rifles Regiment). Dated 20th August, 1915.
New Zealand Field Artillery.
Lieutenant-Colonel George Napier Johnston, R.A., to be Colonel, and to command the New Zealand Divisional Artillery. Dated 26th July, 1915.
Colonel George Napier Johnston, R.A., commanding Divisional Artillery, New Zealand and Australian Division, is granted the temporary rank of Brigadier-General while so employed. Dated 28th August, 1915.
Major Francis Bernard Sykes, R.A., commanding a Field Artillery Brigade, New Zealand and Australian Division, is granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-Colonel while so employed. Dated 28th August, 1915.
