THE Public Service Commissioner has made the following appointments in the Public Service:—
FREDERICK ALOYSIUS CULLEN
to be Receiver of Land Revenue at Auckland for the Auckland Land District, for the purposes of the Land Act, 1908; as from the 10th day of May, 1915.
FRANK TAYLOR SANDFORD
to be Receiver of Land Revenue at Hokitika for the Hokitika Land District, for the purposes of the Land Act, 1908; as from the 16th day of September, 1914.
ADAM DUNCAN ALEXANDER MACFARLANE
to be Receiver of Land Revenue at Nelson for the Nelson Land District, for the purposes of the Land Act, 1908: as from the 10th day of August, 1914.

THE following notice, received from the Council of the Borough of Wanganui, is published in accordance with the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.

WANGANUI BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Notice under Section 12 of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913.
I HEREBY publicly notify that at the poll taken on the 30th day of July, 1915, on the proposal of the Wanganui Borough Council to borrow the sum of £40,000 for the following purposes—that is to say, for providing and laying water mains and pipes, providing water-metres, providing machinery and plant necessary or convenient in connection with the “waterworks” of the borough, and for extending the waterworks and water-service in the said borough; for constructing protective works necessary to protect Rangitikei Quay, a street in the said borough, and the river-bank on such street from erosion by the Wanganui River, and for improving the said Rangitikei Quay, and for providing machinery and material in connection therewith; for extension of the existing drainage system in the said borough, replacing old sewers and providing plant and material in connection therewith; for constructing streets and footpaths, kerbing, and water-channels in the said borough; for constructing public urinals or conveniences; and for all incidental matters in connection with the foregoing works—the following votes were recorded: For the proposal, 336; against the proposal, 792; informal, 11.
I therefore declare the proposal rejected.

WAIPUKURAU BOROUGH COUNCIL.
Result of Poll.
I, THE undersigned, hereby give notice that at the poll held on Wednesday, the 25th day of August, 1915, under the provisions of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, and the Local Elections Act, 1908, and any amendments to either of them, on the proposal to raise a special loan of £1,200 for the purpose of repaying to General Account amounts spent on gas and water Capital Account, providing for further gas and water connections, road and footpath formation and channelling, &c., the following number of votes were polled: For the proposal, 62; against the proposal, 56; informal, 1.
As a majority of votes have been polled for the proposal, I hereby declare the same carried.

HEATHCOTE COUNTY COUNCIL.
Result of Poll on a Proposal to raise a Special Loan of £4,600 for the Installation of Electric Light in the Bromley Riding of the County of Heathcote.
In pursuance of the Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1913, I hereby give notice that at a poll of the ratepayers of the Bromley Riding of the County of Heathcote taken on the 24th day of August, 1915, on the proposal to borrow the sum of £4,600 to install electric light in the Bromley Riding, the number of votes recorded for the proposal was 83, and the number of votes recorded against the proposal was 35.
I therefore declare the proposal was carried.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of House-furnishers’ Shops in the Borough of Petone, under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the house-furnishers’ shops in the Borough of Petone, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops within the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 6 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 p.m.:
And whereas the Petone Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the house-furnishers’ shops within the Borough of Petone:
Now, therefore I, William Ferguson Massey, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that from and after the 6th day of September, 1915, all house-furnishers’ shops in the Borough of Petone shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

By-law prohibiting Touting in Town of Rotorua.
WHEREAS by section 344 of the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, Borough Councils are empowered from time to time to make by-laws, inter alia, for the following purposes:—
(1.) The good rule and government of the borough; and
(2.) Regulating, controlling, or prohibiting any act, matter, or thing usually the subject of municipal regulation, control, or prohibition:
And whereas by section 4 of the Rotorua Town Act, 1907, all such powers of Borough Councils were conferred on the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts in respect of the Town of Rotorua: And whereas it is expedient to make such by-laws accordingly with respect to the said town:
Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the hereinbefore-recited powers, the Department of Tourist and Health Resorts doth hereby make the following new by-law as an addition to Part IV of the by-laws made by the said Department on the 2nd day of December, 1909, and published in the New Zealand Gazette of the 8th day of December, 1909; and doth declare that the said by-law shall come into force on the 1st day of September, 1915.
BY-LAW.
10A. No person shall tout in any public street, public or Government reserve, or public place, for boarders for any hotel or boardinghouse, or for passengers for, or for the hire of, any vehicle for transport of passengers.
