Suspension of Exchange of Money-orders between New Zealand and Germany and between New Zealand and Austria-Hungary.

Wellington, 26th August, 1914.

WHEREAS a state of war exists between the Dominion of New Zealand and the Empire of Germany, and between the Dominion of New Zealand and the Empire of Austria-Hungary, and it is expedient to suspend the issue of money-orders for payment in the aforesaid countries, and the payment in New Zealand of money-orders issued in those countries:

Now, therefore, it is hereby notified for general information that from the date of the publication of this notice the issue of money-orders in the Dominion of New Zealand for payment in the Empire of Germany and the Empire of Austria-Hungary, and the payment in the Dominion of New Zealand of money-orders issued in those countries, is suspended. This suspension shall remain in operation so long as a state of war exists unless previously revoked.

Public Service Stores Tender Board.—Supply and Delivery of Stores.

Wellington, 8th July, 1914.

SEPARATE tenders will be received at the office of the Chairman (Government Printing Office) not later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the 8th September, 1914, for the supply and delivery, C.I.F. & E., main ports, New Zealand, of the undermentioned material:—

3,000 telephones, B.B. wall, 1,000 ohms.

50 (or more) typewriters, telegraph.

6 tons wire, copper, annealed, binding, 60 lb. per mile.

5 tons wire, galvanized iron, binding, No. 16, 65 lb. per mile.

Tenders must be addressed to the Chairman, Public Service Stores Tender Board, Wellington. Delivery of the material is to be made as shown in the Conditions of Tender, and the successful tenderer must give the security required by the conditions for the due performance of the contract. Particulars and conditions of tendering and specifications may be obtained at the office of the Controller of Stores, Post and Telegraph Department, Wellington, the District Storekeeper, Post and Telegraph Department, Christchurch, or the Telegraph Engineers at Auckland and Dunedin. A deposit as shown by the conditions must accompany each tender. The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

Applications invited for the Position of Palæontologist to the Mines Department, Wellington.

Office of Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, N.Z., 9th July, 1914.

APPLICATIONS, to be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, New Zealand, will be received up till noon on the 30th November, 1914, for the position of Palæontologist to the Mines Department, Wellington.

Applicants must give full particulars of education, age, health, and experience, and must—

(a.) Have a good knowledge of geology;

(b.) Have performed original work in connection with palæontology.

A knowledge of one or more foreign languages is desirable.

The chief duties will be—

(1.) To classify the fossil collections of the Geological Survey;

(2.) To specialize in some branch of New Zealand palæontology, preferably in connection with the Cretaceous and Tertiary fauna or flora;

(3.) To assist field geologists in determination of fossils, &c.; and

(4.) To perform any necessary fieldwork in connection with general palæontological work.

Salary, £365; maximum, £400. Professional Division. Deductions to be made for superannuation, and appointment to be subject to the Public Service Act, 1912.

Public Service Stores Tender Board.—Cartage of Supplies from Fairlie to Government Hostel at Hermitage.

Wellington, 13th August, 1914.

TENDERS will be received at the office of the Chairman (Government Printing Office) not later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, the 8th September, 1914, for the cartage of supplies for Government hostel from Fairlie to Hermitage in two lots, the first early in October, 1914, and the second in January, 1915. Approximate total quantity, 35 tons.

Alternative tenders for conveyance by motor-lorry once weekly (if required) between 1st October and 30th April next are also invited.

The successful tenderer will be required to give security in the sum of £25 for the due performance of the contract.

The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

Applications invited for the Position of Manager, Liverpool Colliery.

Office of Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 12th August, 1914.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 12th September, 1914, for the position of Manager of Liverpool Colliery, Greymouth.

  1. Applications must be addressed “The Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington,” and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. Applicants must be in possession of a first-class mine-manager’s certificate issued under the Coal-mines Act, 1908.

  3. The duties are defined in the Second Schedule of the Coal-mines Act, 1908.

  4. The position will be graded in the Professional Division, Class D; salary, £310.

  5. The appointment will be subject to the Public Service Act, 1912.

1,000 yards each cord, red and white, switchboard, unmounted, two-wires.

4,000 cords, two-conductor, for bell and watch receivers.

3,500 cords, four-conductor, for micro-telephones without central switch.

1,000 yards each cord, red and white, two-conductor, for M.C. switchboards.

150 each cords and plugs, red and white, M.C. bindings.

300 mouthpieces, for S.B. transmitters.

1,500 mouthpieces, for micro-telephones.

700 plates, mica, for S.B. transmitter buttons.

1,500 each cords, red and white, three-conductor, 7 ft. long, with spiral tips.

600 cords for operators’ receivers.

500,000 envelopes, No. 26, cream laid, demy, “O.H.M.S.”

750,000 envelopes, No. 29, cream laid, foolscap, “O.H.M.S.”

25 tons wire, copper, 300 lb. per mile.

25 tons wire, copper, 150 lb. per mile.

100 miles wire, insulated and braided, twin-twisted, 1/20.
