IN accordance with section 24 of the Education Act, 1908, it is hereby notified that the following persons have been duly elected members of the Education Board of the District of Otago :-

Northern Ward—

Southern Ward—
JAMES SMITH.

The number of valid votes recorded for each candidate in the election for the Central Ward was—

The total number of valid votes recorded was 107. No informal votes were received.

Northern Ward: Andrew McKerrow was returned unopposed. Southern Ward: James Smith was returned unopposed.

Applications invited for the Positions of Superintendent and Attendants (3) at the Addington Substation of the Lake Coleridge Electric-power Plant.

Office of Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 26th August, 1914.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 12th September, 1914, for the positions of Superintendent and Attendants (3) at the Addington Substation of the Lake Coleridge Electric-power Plant.

  1. Applications must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  2. Applicants must be qualified mechanics with a knowledge of the operation of high-tension electric-power plant and switchboard connections.

  3. The substation has a capacity of 9,000 kilowatts stepping down from 66,000 volts to 11,000 volts for distribution to the system of primary distributors, and applicants should give details of any experience they have had in the equipment or operation of any similar plant.

  4. The duties will consist of shift work amounting to 48 hours per week, at such hours and times as the Electrical Engineer, Christchurch, shall direct; but in case of emergency the attendants appointed will be required to work whatever hours are necessary either inside the substation or at outside work until the emergency conditions are removed.

  5. No free quarters are provided, but a five-roomed cottage will be available adjacent to the substation at a rental of 15s. per week, which the Substation Superintendent may be required to occupy.

  6. The positions will be graded in the General Division. Salaries: Superintendent, £220 per annum; and Attendants ranging from £140 to £160 per annum. Maximum in each case £20 higher, by annual increments of £10.

  7. The appointments will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

Tidal Information on Admiralty Charts and in other Admiralty Publications.

On new editions of Admiralty charts, and also on new charts published subsequent to this notice, the tidal information will, where possible, be given in tabular form in the most convenient place, as follows :-

  1. The name of place.

  2. The Vulgar Est. (H.W.F. & C.) according to the best available determination.

  3. The mean rise of the tide at springs and at neaps above the datum of the soundings on the chart to the nearest ¼ ft. according to the best available determination.
