SCHEDULE.
OTAGO LAND DISTRICT.—WAITAKI COUNTY.
First-class Pastoral Land.
Run No. 98, Kakanui and Kauroo Survey Districts: Area, 4,706 acres; half-yearly rental, £145.
Weighted with £292 2s. 6d., valuation for improvements comprising 430 chains of boundary fencing, 117 chains of subdivisional fencing, and three sets of sheep-yards.
Run No. 98A, Kauroo Survey District: Area, 3,042 acres; half-yearly rental, £95.
Weighted with £125 13s., valuation for improvements comprising 159 chains of boundary fencing, 70 chains of subdivisional fencing, sheep-yards, and a hut.
DESCRIPTION OF RUNS.
Run 98.—This run adjoins Kauroo Hill Settlement, and comprises a series of ridges intersected by branches of Hector’s Creek, a tributary of Kauroo River. The creeks and gullies are deep and precipitous, but there are numerous fairly flat spurs, some of which are ploughable; in fact, a fairly large area near the north-eastern corner has already been cultivated. The vegetation consists of a good tussock with the usual native grasses. The soil is good, and there is an excellent supply of water. The general elevation varies from about 1,000 ft. to 2,900 ft. above sea-level, but the greater part is probably below 1,200 ft. The aspect is north-easterly, and there is good shelter from all prevailing winds. On the whole the run may be said to be excellent grazing-country. The Kauroo Hill School is about six miles away. There is a very good gravelled road to the Kauroo Hill Homestead, and from there to the run is a formed road which requires only a little improvement. The distance from the Town of Oamaru is about nineteen miles and three-quarters, and from Maheno Railway-station about thirteen miles.
Run 98A.—Adjoining Kauroo Hill Settlement. The Kauroo River runs diagonally through the run, and this river and some of its smaller branches have deep precipitous sides. The ridges, however, are fairly flat, and many of them are ploughable. Those parts of Hector’s Creek and Kauroo River that form the northern boundary are clad with bush and scrub, and may possible be used as a natural boundary. The land is of good quality, and should produce good oat and root crops. The vegetation consists of good close-growing tussock, with the usual native grasses. The altitude is from 1,000 ft. to 2,500 ft. above sea-level, and the aspect is north-easterly. There is a very fair homestead-site near the south-east corner. There are good gravelled roads to Kauroo Hill Homestead, from which the road runs up a good leading ridge. This road is formed for some distance, and the remaining formation that is needed does not offer any serious difficulties. There is a good supply of water and good shelter from all prevailing winds. The distance from the Town of Oamaru is about eighteen miles, from Maheno Railway-station about eleven miles and a half, and from Kauroo Hill School about six miles.
Full particulars may be ascertained and plans obtained at this office.

Commissioner of Crown Lands.
