Public Service Stores Tender Board.—Supply and Delivery of Stores.

Wellington, 8th May, 1914.

SEPARATE tenders will be received at the office of the Chairman (Government Printing Office) not later than 5 p.m. on Wednesday, the 1st July, 1914, for the supply and delivery, C.I.F. and E., Wellington, of the undermentioned material :—

1,500,000 envelopes, No. 52, note, window, size 5⅜ in. by 3 in.

20,000 envelopes, No. 54, post, window, size 6⅜ in. by 3⅝ in.

1,000,000 envelopes, No. 55, foolscap, window, size 8⅞ in. by 3⅞ in.

Tenders must be addressed to the Chairman, Public Service Stores Tender Board, Wellington. Delivery of the material is to be made within six months from the date of order, and successful tenderers must give the security required by the conditions for the due performance of the contract. Particulars and conditions of tendering and specifications may be obtained at the offices of the Controller of Stores, Post and Telegraph Department, Wellington; the District Storekeeper, Post and Telegraph Department, Christchurch; or the Telegraph Engineers at Auckland and Dunedin. Tenders must be accompanied by the deposit stipulated in the conditions.

The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

Applications invited for the Position of Milk-tester, Palmerston North.

Office of Public Service Commissioner,
Wellington, 7th May, 1914.

  1. APPLICATIONS will be received up till noon on the 1st June, 1914, for the position of Milk-tester, Department of Agriculture, at Palmerston North.

  2. Applications must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  3. Applicants must—

(a.) Be thoroughly acquainted with and have had experience in the testing of milk by the Babcock method.

(b.) Write a good hand, be quick and accurate at figures, and understand the computing of milk and butter-fat returns.

(c.) Be able to milk and handle cows efficiently.

  1. The position will be graded in the General Division. Salary, £200 per annum.

  2. The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

Applications invited for Position of Junior Assistant, Museum Department.

  1. APPLICATIONS will be received up till noon on the 1st June, 1914, for the position of Junior Assistant, Museum Department.

  2. Applications must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  3. Applicants must not be more than twenty-five years of age, and must have had a good general education. Previous experience of Museum work or some knowledge of natural science will be a recommendation, but specialization in any particular branch is not desired.

  4. The duties comprise general Museum work, such as the care of specimens, their storage, registration and cataloguing.

  5. The position will be graded in the Clerical Division. Salary to commence, £120 per annum.

  6. The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

  2. Applications must be forwarded through the Head of the Department, addressed to the “Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington,” and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  3. Position is graded in Class VI; maximum, £260; Clerical Division.

  4. The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

  1. APPLICATIONS will be received up till noon on the 1st June, 1914, for the position of Crown Lands Ranger, Invercargill.

  2. Applications must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

  3. Applicants must have a knowledge of—

(a.) The conditions imposed on Crown tenants under the various Land Acts in respect of improvements and residence.

(b.) The value of farm improvements generally.

(c.) Farm draining, roading, fencing, and the suitability and condition of farm buildings.

(d.) Noxious weeds, and the effect of their growth on the land.

(e.) The business and methods of agriculture.

(f.) The market prices of the main staple items of agricultural produce.

(g.) The raising, feeding, and value of livestock.

  1. The applicants must be judges of—

(a.) The value of lands either in virgin bush or improved, and able to distinguish between unimproved and improved value, and of the prospect of their increasing in value under improved management, or their liability to deteriorate from neglect or bad farming or from other local drawbacks.

(b.) The rental value of lands.

(c.) The carrying-capacity of land and its suitability for sheep farming, dairying, or cropping.

(d.) The valuation of land for subdivision.

  1. The position will be graded in the General Division; salary to commence, £230 per annum.

  2. The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.
