Applications for Licenses to use the Totalizator.

Wellington, 22nd October, 1914.
IT is hereby notified for general information that the Gaming Amendment Act, 1914 (known as Mr. Hunter's Act), having received His Excellency's assent, there are now available for issue to clubs that do not already hold a license to use the totalizator, thirty-one licenses to be distributed as follows: Fifteen to racing clubs, eight to hunt clubs, and eight to trotting clubs.
A license is available for one day only in each racing year.
The Minister of Internal Affairs invites written applications from those clubs not holding totalizator licenses, and every application must be accompanied by—

Statement giving date of first formation of club, whether registered or not, and date of last meeting held.

A list of the present members of the club, and a copy of the club's latest balance-sheet.

Particulars of racecourse, circumference in furlongs, tenure thereof, and accommodation thereon, and also whether course is fenced or not on the inside of the course.

Distance from nearest places at which race meetings are held by—
(a.) Clubs using the totalizator;
(b.) Clubs not using the totalizator.
- Any particulars which club considers give it a special claim for consideration.
Applications are to be addressed to the Under-Secretary, Internal Affairs Department, and must reach him on or before the 10th December next.

Applications invited for the Position of Chief Accountant, Lands and Survey Department, and Consequential Vacancies.

APPLICATIONS are invited from qualified accountants in the Public Service for the position of Chief Accountant in the Lands and Survey Department.
Applications, to be made on forms obtainable from the Permanent Head, Lands and Survey Department, or from this office, will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 28th November, 1914.
The position is graded in the Clerical Division, Class IV. Salary will be considered in connection with present salary.
Consequential vacancies may also be applied for by officers in Classes V and VI.

Applications invited for the Positions (Two) of Veterinarian in the Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce.

APPLICATIONS will be received at this office up till noon on the 30th November, 1914, for the positions (two) of Veterinarian in the Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce.
Applications must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.
Applicants must hold the degree of M.R.C.V.S. or some other Veterinary degree approved by the Commissioner.
The appointment will be subject to the Public Service Act, 1912.
Position will be graded in Professional Division, Class D. Salary to commence, £310 per annum; maximum, £400.

Applications invited for the Positions (Two) of Linemen for the Lake Coleridge - Christchurch High-tension Transmission-Line, Public Works Department.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 21st November for the positions of Linemen (two) for the Lake Coleridge - Christchurch high-tension transmission-line.

Applications must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c.

Applicants must submit credentials of experience in the maintenance of extra-high-tension overhead lines.

The successful applicants will each have to take charge of and patrol about sixty miles of line. One will be located at Lake Coleridge, and the other at Addington.

They will be required to be available for duty at any hour of the day or night, including holidays and Sundays, and must work whatever hours are required.

Means of transport will be provided by the Department, but no travelling-allowance or board and lodging expenses will be paid when on ordinary patrol work. On breakdown work an allowance of 3s. per night will be paid when required to be away from home.
The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.
The position will be graded in the General Division; salary, £208 per annum.

Applications invited for the Positions (Two) of Inspector of Machinery.

APPLICATIONS will be received by the undersigned up till noon on the 1st December, 1914, for the positions of Inspector of Machinery, Marine and Inspection of Machinery Department, Wanganui and Napier.

Applications must be addressed to the Secretary to the Public Service Commissioner, Wellington, and must embrace a statement of education and experience, particulars of age, &c. The age must not exceed forty.

The qualifications essential for the position are—
(a.) An apprenticeship of not less than five years as an engineer.
(b.) (i.) Five years' service as Chief Engineer of a steamer between 200 and 1,000 gross tonnage; or
(ii.) Two years' service as Chief Engineer of a steamer over 1,000 gross tonnage ; or
(iii.) One year's service as Chief Engineer and two years' service as Second Engineer of a steamer over 1,000 gross tonnage. -
The successful applicants must themselves bear the cost of proceeding to their respective stations.

The appointment will be subject to the provisions of the Public Service Act, 1912.

The position will be graded in the Professional Division. Salary, £300 per annum.
