Commissioner of the Supreme Court appointed.
NOTICE.—ARNOLD TRINDER, Esquire, of 156 Leadenhall Street, London, England, a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England, has this day been appointed by His Honour the Chief Justice a Commissioner of the Supreme Court of New Zealand in England, under the 47th section of the Judicature Act, 1908, for the purpose of administering and taking all such oaths, affidavits, and affirmations as in the said section mentioned.

ALTERNATIVE tenders will be received at the Chief Post-office, Dunedin, until noon on Saturday, 28th February, 1914, for the conveyance of mails, &c., as under, for the periods ending 31st December, 1915, and 31st December, 1918.
No. 1. Dunedin Chief Post-office, Railway-station, and Wharves; also supplying motor-cars with chauffeurs or horse-vehicles with drivers, for conveyance of officers of the Department clearing city and suburban letter boxes and receivers; delivery of letter-carriers’ bags; and delivery of parcels in the city and suburbs within a radius of four miles of the Chief Post-office, Dunedin, as required. (Alternative to Nos. 2, 3, and 4.)
No. 2. Dunedin Chief Post-office, Railway-station, and Wharves, as required. (Alternative to No. 1.)

The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted. The attention of intending tenderers is directed to the terms and conditions of contract printed at the back of the tender-forms.
Successful tenderers will be required to show that they are in a position to satisfactorily carry out the services.
No tender will be considered unless made on the printed form, which may be obtained at any post-office.

Arrivals and Departures in 1913.

TABLES showing the numbers of arrivals in and departures from New Zealand during the year 1913, with totals for the previous nine years by way of comparison, are published for general information.
The total number of persons who arrived in the Dominion during 1913 was 44,588, and the departures during the year numbered 30,369, the excess of arrivals over departures for the year being 14,219.
According to returns furnished by the Immigration officers, 14,707 persons arrived from the United Kingdom, and 2,649 persons departed therefor during the year. From the Commonwealth of Australia the arrivals are returned as numbering 26,764 persons, and the departures thereto as 24,961 persons. Arrivals and departures from and to other countries were 3,117 and 2,759 persons respectively.
Of the 44,588 persons who came to New Zealand last year, 5,915, or 13·27 per cent. of the total, were children—i.e., under twelve years of age; and of the 30,369 departures the children numbered 2,663, or 8·77 per cent.
