Public Service Stores Tender Board.--Supply and Delivery of Oil-launch.
WELLINGTON, 26th November, 1913.
TENDERS will be received at the office of the Chairman (Government Printing Office, Wellington) not later than noon on Wednesday, the 10th December, 1913, for the supply and delivery of an oil-launch on Lake Rotorua. The launch is to be between 20 ft. and 30 ft. in length, speed seven to ten miles an hour, and capable of being taken through the Ohau Channel. Tenders must state length, breadth, depth, and draught of hull; the extent to which the launch is decked, and whether the propeller is enclosed in a tunnel; the make of engine, and horse-power.
Tenders must be addressed to the "Chairman, Public Service Stores Tender Board, Wellington," marked on the outside "Tender for Oil-launch."
The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

Public Service Stores Tender Board.--Supply and Delivery of Leggings.
WELLINGTON, 26th November, 1913.
TENDERS will be received at the office of the Chairman (Government Printing Office) not later than noon on Wednesday, 10th December, 1913, for the supply and delivery of 700 pairs of leggings (more or less) during a period of one year, as from the 1st January, 1914.
Tenders must be addressed to the "Chairman, Public Service Stores Tender Board, Wellington."
Forms and conditions of tendering and specifications may be obtained from the Controller of Stores, Post and Telegraph Department, Wellington, the District Storekeeper, Post and Telegraph Department, Christchurch, or the Chief Postmaster at Auckland and Dunedin, where samples may be seen. A deposit of £10 must accompany each tender.
The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.

Notice to Mariners No. 127 of 1913.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Chief Harbourmaster, Fremantle, Western Australia, the Board of Trade, London, Hydrographic Office, Washington, United States, America, and the Hydrographic Office, London, are published for general information.

AUSTRALIA.
Western Australia.--North-west Coast.
It is hereby notified that the master of the s.s. "Bullarra" reports having grounded on an uncharted sandbank carrying 16 ft. of water at first quarter flood (spring tide), lat. 20.12 S., long. 118.15 E.
Chart affected : No. 1055, Bedout Island to Cape Cuvier.
CHINA SEA, etc.
ALACRITY BANK.--This bank, extending in a N.-ely. and S.-wly. direction, showing soundings of 11 and 14 fms. in 19° 28' N., 112° 18' E., having been searched for unsucc. by H.M. surveying vessel "Merlin" in 1908 and again by H.M.S. "Clio" in 1913, has been expunged from the charts.
CALIFORNIA.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY.--SAN PABLO BAY.--GAS AND BELL BUOY ESTABLISHED.--BUOY DISCONTINUED.--On 2nd September, 1913, San Pablo dredged channel gas and bell buoy 1, conical with pyramidal skeleton superstructure, showing an intermittent white light of about 120 candle-power every 20 seconds--thus, light 10 seconds, eclipsed 10 seconds--was established in San Pablo Bay, California, in place of San Pablo dredged channel buoy 1, a first-class can, which was then discontinued.
Lower mid-channel gas and bell buoy, painted in perpendicular stripes, was discontinued on the same date.
CORDES BANK.--GAS AND WHISTLE BUOY TO BE ESTABLISHED.--About 15th November, 1913, Cortes Bank gas and whistle buoy 2 C B, cylindrical with pyramidal skeleton superstructure, showing a flashing white light of about 530 candle-power every 10 seconds--thus, flash 3 seconds, eclipsed 7 seconds--will be established to mark Cortes Bank off the sea-coast of California.
The light will be exhibited 17 ft. above the water and will be visible 9 miles.
The illuminating apparatus will be a 375-millimeter lens lantern burning acetylene gas.
Approx. position : Lat. 32° 24' N., long. 119° 7' 30" W.
LOS ANGELES HARBOUR.--SAN PEDRO BREAKWATER.--BELL-BUOY DISCONTINUED.--Referring to Notice to Mariners No. 29 (2257) of 1913, further notice is given that on 8th August, 1913, San Pedro Breakwater bell-buoy 1 S P B, Los Angeles Harbour, California, was permanently discontinued.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY.--ALVISO CHANNEL.--BEACON DESTROYED.--Alviso Channel beacon No. 11, San Francisco Bay, California, was reported destroyed 18th August, 1913.
This beacon will be rebuilt as soon as practicable.
Approx. position : Lat. 37° 27' 35" N., long. 122° 3' W.
SHOAL SOUNDINGS REPORTED.--Lieut. F. P. Evans, R.N.R., commanding the Royal Mail steamship "Tahiti," reports that on 7th August, 1913, between 6.15 and 6.25 a.m., he obtained soundings at 35 fathoms, rocky bottom, in latitude 37° 28' N., longitude 122° 58' 30" W., a point shown on the charts as being outside the 100-fathom curve.
The above depth was obtained by a Sir William Thompson sounding machine, and repeated casts gave the same depth for a distance of about 1 mile in a northeast-southwest direction. Later the depth increased to 49 fathoms, and this and subsequent soundings agreed with the charted depths.
An hour and a half later a vertical angle of Mount Tamalpais was observed for position, and this was checked by correct soundings and an observation of the sum on the prime vertical at 8 a.m. for longitude. Later, upon arrival in San Francisco, his chronometer was found to be correct.
AFRICA.
SOUTH COAST.--FALSE BAY.--SIMONS BAY.--BUOYS DISCONTINUED.--BUOY MOVED.--The following mooring-buoys in Simons Bay, south coast of Africa, have been discontinued :--
Mooring-buoy No. 9, "Penelope," located in (approximately) latitude 34° 11' S., longitude 18° 26' E.
Mooring-buoy No. 8, in (approximately) latitude 34° 11' 15" S., longitude 18° 26' E.
Mooring-buoy No. 5 has been moved 55 yards 33° from its former position and re-established 370 yards 77° from the head of Admiral's Jetty.

SUMATRA.
SUNDA STRAIT.--BANK REPORTED.--The master of the Netherlands Government cable ship "Telegraaf" reports having located a bank, with a least depth of 30 fathoms, in the entrance to Sunda Strait.
The bank extends in a southerly direction from latitude 6° 14' S., longitude 104° 45' 30" E., to latitude 6° 20' S., longitude 104° 45' 30" E. Soundings of 160 to 275 fathoms were obtained about 2 miles southward of the bank.
WASHINGTON.
PUGET SOUND.--SEATTLE HARBOUR.--SHOAL REMOVED.--BUOY DISCONTINUED.--On 1st July, 1913, West Waterway middle-ground buoy, a second-class spar, painted red and black in horizontal bands, established to mark a shoal in Seattle Harbour, Puget Sound, Washington, was permanently discontinued, the shoal which it marked having been removed.
ADMIRALTY INLET.--POINT WILSON LIGHT-STATION.--CHARACTERISTIC OF FOG-SIGNAL CHANGED.--On 1st September, 1913, the fog-signal at Point Wilson Light-station, Admiralty Inlet, Washington, was changed from a steam-whistle to a first-class air siren, which will sound 1 blast every 30 seconds--thus, blast 4 seconds, silent interval 26 seconds.
JAVA.
NORTH COAST.--SURABAYA.--LIGHT ESTABLISHED.--The Netherlands Government has given notice that a fixed green light has been established on the dock located to the southward of the green buoy and westward of Kalimas River, Surabaya, north coast of Java.
