Opening Lands in Taranaki Land District for Sale or
Selection.
LIVERPOOL, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur
William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the
Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the
Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one
hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that
the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open
for sale or selection on Wednesday, the twenty-first day of
January, one thousand nine hundred and fourteen; and also
that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the
option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be
selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on re-
newable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at
which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as
mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that
the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and
subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

The improvements on the section consist of 81 acres felled
and grassed, £193 ; 25 chains of fenoing, £20 17s. ; and hut,
£15 : total value, £228 17s. Of this amount £89 13s. 9d.
must be paid by the suocessful applicant in cash, the balance
of £139 3s. 3d. being included in the capital value.
The section is situated on the Kakara Road, about thirteen
miles and a half distant from Waimiha Railway-station, eight
miles of which is formed dray-road, and balance 6 ft. track
and partly formed dray-road. The section lies well to the
sun, and comprises easy sloping country, a good deal of
which will be ploughable, and from which the bush and
manuka has been cleared with the exception of about 60
acres ; of this about 40 acres is still under heavy bush of
tawa, rimu, matai, pukatea, &c., with a dense undergrowth
of supplejacks, mahoe, raurekau, ferns, pongas, &c. ; and the
balance is under fern and manuka, through which there is a
lot of rough feed. The soil is of good quality, on a papa for-
mation, and the section is well watered.
OHURA COUNTY.-TANGITU SURVEY DISTRICT.

Situated on the Main Trunk Railway, between Ongarue
and Waimiha Railway-stations. There is a sheep-proof fence
between the railway-line and the section. Access from Onga-
rue, about four miles distant by dray-road ; access also from
Waimiha, about two miles and a quarter distant by road
formed for wheel traffic. The section is more conveniently
worked from the Waimiha end. Flat, easy, and steep country,
a large proportion being undulating and ploughable. The
forest is practically nil, the section being covered with fern,
manuka, and tutu. The soil is of very indifferent quality,
being a light pumiceous loam mixed with pumice, with out-
crops of rhyolite rock ; well watered. Elevation ranges from
650 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level.

DESCRIPTIONS OF SECTIONS.
Section 1.-Flat dairying country, about 600 ft. above sea-
level. Good soil, on gravel formation ; has been covered
with mixed bush ; now milled, and burnt and grassed.
Eastern boundary fenced with post-and-wire fence, 43 chains,
and there is 70 chains of internal fencing. Watered by the
Tamaki River, which forms the western boundary. Distant
from Dannevirke about four miles.
Section 2.-Similar to above, but has inferior soil ; watered
by small creek below terrace. Fenced on western boundary
and part of eastern boundary, 76 chains, and there is 26
chains of internal fencing. There are four old buildings on
this section. Distant about four miles from Dannevirke.
Section 3.-Similar to Section 2 ; watered by small creek
below terrace. Part of western boundary is fenced for 33
chains, and there is 28 chains of internal fencing. Distant
about three miles and a half from Dannevirke.
Section 5.-Flat dairying country ; good soil, on gravel
formation ; bush land burnt and sown. Ring-fenced with
exception of north-western boundary ; has 40 chains of
internal fencing. Distant about two miles and three-quarters
from Dannevirke by formed road. There is no permanent
water, but this can probably be obtained easily by sinking.
Section 6.-Similar country to Section 5. Fenced on road
frontage and north-western boundary, while western and
southern boundaries are stock-proof gorges ; has 82 chains
of boundary fencing and 60 chains of internal fencing. Dis-
tant about three miles from Dannevirke by formed road.
Section 7. Good dairying land ; flat terraces; bush
land, milled, burnt, and sown ; the greater portion of the
section is on a low terrace, with good river-silt soil. There
is about 10 chains of boundary fencing along road frontage,
and about 10 chains of internal fencing. Distant from Danne-
virke about three miles by formed road.
Section 8.-Good dairying land ; river terraces ; similar to
Section 7. Divided into two by old river-bank ; has 30 chains
of internal fencing ; well watered. Distant from Dannevirke
four miles.
Section 9.-Similar to Section 8. Fenced along (or near)
road frontage for 14 chains. Well watered. Distant from
Dannevirke four miles.
