The inclusion of the suburban boroughs tends to lower the rate at Wellington and Dunedin, but raises it at Auckland.

Including the suburbs, the rate at Dunedin is the highest, and at Wellington the lowest.

Compared with July, 1912, the results are,—

The total births in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs amounted to 577, against 570 in June—an increase of 7. The deaths in July were 263—an increase of 41 as compared with last month. Of the total deaths, males contributed 141, females 142. Fifty-seven of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 20·14 per cent. of the whole number; 40 of these were under one year of age.

There were 124 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs, as against 92 in June. The following table shows the classification:—
