Situated on the Tapuiwahine Road. Access from Ongarue Railway-station on the Main Trunk line, about twelve miles and a half distant—by dray-road for four miles, and horse-track for remaining distance. The section comprises nearly all flat or very easy country, with a steep face along the southern boundary, and is covered with a heavy forest of rata, rimu, miro, matai, kahikatea, tawa, tawhero, hinau, and a fairly dense undergrowth of raurekau, rangiora, kotukutuku, puku, mahoe, supplejacks, pongas, kiekie, ramarama, &c. The soil is of very good quality, resting on papa formation, and the section is well watered. Elevation ranges from 975 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on the Akaterewa Road. Access from Ongarue Railway-station, from ten miles and a half to twelve miles distant—by dray-road for four miles and horse-track remaining distance. There is a dray-road to within a few chains of the most southern point of Section 18, which road leads via Otangiwai and Matiere to Ongarue, the distance by this route being about twenty-eight miles. The land comprises mostly flat and very easy undulating country, with a fair proportion of rather steep and ridgy country. The sections are covered with a heavy forest of rata, rimu, miro, matai, kahikatea, tawa, tawhero, hinau, &c., and a fairly dense undergrowth of raurekau, kotukutuku, mahoe, rangiora, puku, supplejacks, pongas, ramarama, karamu, makomako, tawhiri, &c. The soil is of good quality, resting on papa formation, and the sections are well watered. Elevation ranges from 970 ft. to 1,530 ft. above sea-level.

Opening Lands in Taranaki Land District for Sale or Selection.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Tuesday, the twenty-first day of October, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

SCHEDULE.

TARANAKI LAND DISTRICT.—WAITOMO COUNTY.—ARIA SURVEY DISTRICT.

Situated on the Paro Road, about half a mile from the Kaeaea Post and Telephone Office, and about a mile and half from the school. A cream-cart passes the sections daily during the season. The access is from Te Kuiti, about thirty miles distant, by a good dray-road. The sections comprise flat to easy sloping and very steep country, with an area of fern and light manuka land on the road frontage of Section 16. Both sections have homestead-sites near the road frontage. The forest is heavy on Section 16, but varies from very light to heavy on Section 17, and comprises birch, totara, hinau, miro, maire, kahikatea, rata, rewarewa, manuka, fern, &c., with a dense undergrowth of supplejacks, mahoe, pongas, raurekau, wharangi, karamu, &c. The soil varies from very good to indifferent, on papa and sandstone formation. The sections are well watered. Elevation ranges from 900 ft. to 1,600 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on the Mokau Road, from two miles and a half to three miles and a half distant from Puketutu Railway-station, on the Main Trunk line, two miles being dray-road, and the balance horse-track. The sections comprise undulating fern and manuka land, with flats along the Mokau River on the northern boundary. A good proportion of each section is ploughable. There are a few acres of light bush on Section 1, comprising tawa, tawhero, rewarewa, and at the southern end of Sections 2 and 3 there is a fair-sized piece of heavy bush comprising tawa, pukatea, rata, titoki, tawhero, rewarewa, and kaiwhiria, with a dense undergrowth. The soil is a tufaceous loam, generally of fair quality, resting on rhyolite formation, but on the heavy bush land on Section 2 the soil is very good. The sections are well watered. Elevation varies from 660 ft. to 960 ft. above sea-level.

Situated on the Mangapehi Road, about five miles to five miles and three-quarters from Kopaki Railway-station by surveyed road. The sections may at present be reached by surveyor’s pack-track from Puketutu, or by horse-track up the Mangapehi Valley to the 10-mile peg on Te Kuiti—Awakino Road. The best access will eventually be in the last-named direction. The land comprises undulating to steep fern and manuka country, with extensive manuka flats at the southern end of Section 5 and some flat land at the southern end of Section 4. A fair proportion of Sections 5 and 8 is ploughable. On Section 4 there is a little light bush, mostly tawa, rewarewa, tawhero; on Section 8 a little kahi-
