The inclusion of the suburban boroughs tends to lower the rate at each of the four centres.

Christchurch City and five suburban boroughs 1·09
Dunedin City and five suburban boroughs 0·94

Including the suburbs, the rate at Christchurch is the highest, and at Wellington the lowest.

Compared with June, 1912, the results are,—

The total births in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs amounted to 570, against 621 in May—a decrease of 51. The deaths in June were 242—a decrease of 16 as compared with last month. Of the total deaths, males contributed 131, females 111. Forty-seven of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 19·42 per cent. of the whole number; 41 of these were under one year of age.

There were 92 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs, as against 90 in May. The following table shows the classification :—
