About 200 acres flat land of a light nature adjoining river, covered with manuka; remainder undulating to hilly fern land, with steep faces to Mangare Stream and a rocky face next to surveyed road. Soil mostly of fair quality; well watered by river and good spring. Situated twenty-two miles from Te Awamutu by cart-road.

Undulating to broken land; one-half tall manuka and light mixed forest comprising rewarewa, tawhero, whauwhai, manuka, &c.; balance heavy mixed forest comprising tawhero, tawa, rata, rewarewa, and a few scattered rimu, totara, &c. Soil a volcanic loam, on volcanic formation; well watered by streams. Distant thirty-four miles from Te Awamutu Railway-station, of which distance twenty-five miles is by cart-road, five miles pack-track; balance in course of construction.

THAMES COUNTY.—WAIHOU SURVEY DISTRICT.—PART OF HAURAKI PLAINS.

Altitude, 6 ft. to 8 ft. above sea-level. All deep peat swamp. Soil of fair second-class quality, on clay formation; badly watered by drains, but water can be obtained by boring. Situated two miles from Orchard Wharf, on the Piako River, by fair summer road.

Altitude, 400 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. About 200 acres broken land; balance undulating, covered with fern and scrub. Soil on broken portion is inferior pumice; remainder of fair quality of a sandy nature, on pumice-cement formation; well watered by Whakahauapa Stream. Situated twelve miles from Matata by formed road, of which five miles is coach-road.

Opening Land in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by Part III of the Land Act, 1908, and by the Fruit-farms Settlement Act, 1910, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the first-named Act, do hereby declare that the land described in the Schedule hereto, having been set apart for the purpose of leasing or otherwise disposing of the same for fruit-growing or other agricultural purposes, shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-fifth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto; and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908, and the Fruit-farms Settlement Act, 1910.

SCHEDULE.

Undulating land. Altitude, 75 ft. to 150 ft. above sea-level. Fronts Great South Road (unmetalled). One mile from Te Kauwhata (Wairangi) Railway-station. Contains 10 acres orchard (planted out in 1909), 3 acres young vineyard, 13 acres grass; balance manuka and rush swamp. All boundaries fenced except north-west, and about 45 chains subdivisional fencing has also been erected.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this eleventh day of July, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen.

General Regulations of the Defence Forces (Additional).

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the Defence Act, 1909, and its amendments, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby make the following regulations; and I do hereby declare that such regulations shall come into force on the seventh day of July, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen.

REGULATIONS.

THE NEW ZEALAND FORCES MOTOR RESERVE OF OFFICERS.

Establishment.

  1. THE New Zealand Forces Motor Reserve shall consist of one Lieutenant-Colonel, one Staff Officer, sixteen Majors, thirty-two Captains, and one hundred and twenty-eight Lieutenants.

Administration.

  1. The New Zealand Forces Motor Reserve will be administered on mobilization by a Lieutenant-Colonel of the Territorial Force, who will be responsible to the Quartermaster-General, assisted by a Staff Officer, who will be appointed from the Permanent Forces of the Dominion. The administrative duties in peace will be performed by an officer of the Headquarters Staff under the Quartermaster-General,
