GENERAL DESCRIPTION.

Taupo is situated on the banks of the Waikato River, and on the northern shore of Lake Taupo. Distant 227 miles from Auckland—by rail to Rotorua, thence by coach; and 103 miles by coach from Napier. Sulphur springs, geysers, various mineral baths, Huka Falls, and Aratiatia Rapids, &c., are among the attractions for the tourist. Trout-fishing in the lake provides splendid sport. There are several good hotels in the town for the accommodation of visitors.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this eleventh day of July, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen.

Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.


LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-fifth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

HOKIANGA COUNTY.—TUTAMOE SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, 300 ft. to 600 ft. above sea-level. Section consists of a flat-topped spur between two streams, with flats along each stream; about half of section ploughable; 8 acres in grass; balance light to heavy mixed forest comprising tawa, rata, towai, rimu, kahikatea, pukatea, kohekohe, taraire, punga, nikau, hinau, and sufficient totara for fencing, with dense undergrowth of ferns, supplejack, toetoe, &c. Soil of fair quality, on limestone formation; well watered by streams.

Distant twenty-three miles from Kaihu, twenty-two miles of which is by cart-road, balance formed bridle-track.

Undulating land, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising towai, rimu, miro, tawa, &c., with heavy undergrowth of punga, supplejack, mahoe, konini, and ferns. Heavy chocolate semi-volcanic soil, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant thirteen miles and a half from Kaihu, thirteen miles of which is by cart-road; balance 6 ft. formed track.

Altitude, 700 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level. About 100 acres flat, 200 acres undulating, balance broken; all covered with heavy mixed forest comprising towai, rata, rimu, enough totara for fencing, a few small kahikatea, taraire, miro, and tawa, with dense undergrowth of kiekie, supplejack, &c. Clay soil, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Distant about ten miles from Kaihu Railway-station, five miles of which is by cart-road; balance formed cart-road and track to section.

WHANGAREI COUNTY.—PARAHAKI PARISH.

HOBSON COUNTY.—KAIHU SURVEY DISTRICT.
