Arrivals and Departures in 1912.

TABLES showing the numbers of arrivals in and departures from New Zealand during the year 1912, with totals for the previous nine years by way of comparison, are published for general information.

The total number of persons who arrived in the Dominion during 1912 was 44,660, and the departures during the year numbered 35,733, the excess of arrivals over departures for the year being 8,927 persons.

According to returns furnished by the Immigration officers, 12,912 persons arrived from the United Kingdom, and 2,605 persons departed therefor during the year. From the Commonwealth of Australia the arrivals are returned as numbering 28,522 persons, and the departures thereto as 30,141 persons. Arrivals and departures from and to other countries were 3,226 and 2,987 persons respectively.

Of the 44,660 persons who came to New Zealand last year, 5,192, or 11·63 per cent. of the total, were children—i.e., under twelve years of age; and of the 35,733 departures the children numbered 3,304, or 9·25 per cent.
