Four ounces of bread may be substituted for 7 oz. of oatmeal, and 4 oz. of bread for 8 oz. of potatoes, in No. 2 Scale.

Alterations may be made in the prescribed diets, subject to the approval of the Minister.

Notes.

  1. (a.) The allowances of oatmeal, meat, and vegetables are as uncooked.
    (b.) Any order made by the Medical Officer for the special dieting of any prisoner shall be given in writing, and strictly attended to.
    (c.) The labour ration shall be subject to the completion of all tasks assigned and to good conduct, and shall be given only upon the recommendation of the overseer or officer in charge.
    (d.) Non-performance of any task shall, at the direction of the Gaoler or officer in charge of the prison, render a prisoner employed at hard labour liable to be placed on No. 2 Scale for the following day; but the sanction of the Visiting Justice or of the Inspector must be obtained to any such reduction of rations for more than three consecutive days.
    (e.) All prisoners in respect of whose rations any reduction is made, shall have their cases brought under the notice of the Medical Officer.
    (f.) Females employed at laundry-work shall be allowed one pint of tea, with milk and sugar, at 11 o’clock a.m.

RULES AS TO UNIFORM CLOTHING OF OFFICERS.

  1. Officers while on duty shall wear uniforms as follows, and no variation whatever shall be permitted except by authority of the Minister. The uniforms shall be provided free of charge.

Gaoler.

  1. The uniform of the Gaoler shall be as prescribed by the Minister from time to time.

Chief Warder.

  1. Cap: Blue cloth; plain black patent-leather projecting peak embroidered with gold, gold crown in front; black mohair band (oak-leaf pattern); gold button on top.
    Jacket: Blue cloth; single-breasted; stand-up collar, rounded in front to fasten with hook and eye, trimmed with ¼ in. gold lace round top and ⅛ in. gold lace round bottom; twisted gold ¾ in. cord shoulder-straps secured with two small gold-gilt buttons; jacket bound with 1 in. black mohair braid; breast trimmed with plain black mohair braid; six gold-gilt uniform buttons with crown, with letters “N.Z. Prisons”; two inside breast-pockets. Distinction badge: Sleeve trimmed with Austrian knot.
    Trousers: Blue cloth; plain black mohair braid, 1½ in. wide, down seams; two side-pockets.
    Boots: As approved.
    Overcoat: Approved pattern.

Principal Warder.

  1. Cap: Blue cloth, chin-strap, plain black leather projecting peak; black mohair band, oak-leaf pattern, 1½ in. wide.
    Jacket: Blue cloth, single-breasted; six gold-gilt buttons; stand-up collar, to fasten with one hook and eye, bound with plain mohair braid; collar trimmed top and bottom with ⅛ in. gold lace; twisted gold ¾ in. cord shoulder-straps secured with two small gold-gilt buttons. Distinction badge: Three-bar gold chevron on right arm above elbow.
    Trousers: Blue cloth with two side-pockets, red piping on seams.
    Boots: As approved.
    Overcoats: Approved pattern.

Warders.

  1. Cap: Blue cloth, chin-strap, plain black leather peak.
    Jacket: Blue cloth, single-breasted; six gold-gilt uniform buttons; stand-up collar rounded in front to fasten with one hook and eye, bound all round with plain black mohair braid; twisted black mohair ½ in. cord shoulder-knots secured with two small gold-gilt buttons; two inside breast-pockets. Distinction badge: One-bar gold chevron on right arm above elbow.
