Otago and Southland Farriers.—Recommendation of Conciliation Council.

In the matter of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act, 1908, and its amendments; and in the matter of an industrial dispute between the Dunedin and Suburban Farriers' Industrial Union of Workers, applicant, and A. Alexander and others, respondents.

THE following recommendation of the Conciliation Council appointed to hear the above dispute is published pursuant to subsection (4) of section 43 of the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Act, 1908, and number 34 of the regulations thereunder.

RECOMMENDATIONS.

Hours of Work.

  1. The ordinary week's work shall not exceed forty-four hours. Not more than eight hours ordinary time, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., shall be worked on five days of the week, and not more than four hours on Saturday, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 12 noon, or on any other day usually observed in any district as the weekly half-holiday.

Wages.

  1. The wages of farriers shall be 1s. 5d. per hour, and floormen 1s. 2d. per hour.

Overtime.

  1. That all time worked beyond the hours mentioned in clause 1 on any one day shall be overtime, and shall be paid at the rate of time and a quarter for the first hour, for the next two hours shall be paid time and a half, after which double time shall be paid up to 7 a.m.

Holidays.

  1. The following days shall be observed as holidays: Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day, 2nd January, Good Friday,
