Opening National Endowment Lands in Auckland Land
District for Selection.

LIVERPOOL, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities
conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur
William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of
the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby declare that the
national endowment lands described in the Schedule hereto
shall be open for selection on renewable lease on Monday,
the twenty-sixth day of May, one thousand nine hundred
and thirteen, at the rentals mentioned in the said Schedule;
and I do also declare that the said lands shall be leased
under and subject to the provisions of the said Act.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—AWAKINO COUNTY.—
WHAREORINO SURVEY DISTRICT.

Altitude, 10 ft. to 600 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to hilly
country; about 200 acres swamp, 30 acres sand, growing flax
and patches of grass, 70 acres fern and manuka, 60 acres
manuka, rewarewa, and scattered puriri; remainder of sec-
tion light to moderately heavy mixed forest comprising rata,
rimu, kohekohe, tawa, &c., with fairly thick undergrowth of
fern, nikau, supplejack, &c. Soil medium to good quality,
on sandstone formation. Situated about fourteen miles from
Marakopa, of which eight miles and a half is by Whakau
Road (formed), thence two miles and a half by track to Nuku-
hakere, thence three miles by track along the coast. There
will be more direct access when the formation of Whakau
Road is completed.

Altitude, 130 ft. to 1,100 ft. above sea-level. Fairly broken
country, steep along main range, with small flats along road
frontage; all heavy mixed forest comprising rimu, rata,
tawa, kohekohe, tawhero, and mangeao, with fairly dense
undergrowth of supplejack, mahoe, fern, &c. Soil of good
quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by Mangatoa
and small streams. Situated twenty-two miles from Awa-
kino, of which ten miles is dray-road; balance 6 ft. track, or
eighteen miles from Marakopa by formed road.

Altitude, 100 ft. to 1,100 ft. above sea-level. About 12
acres raupo swamp and 20 acres manuka and scrub on Sec-
tion 7; remainder of sections undulating to broken land,
covered with heavy to medium mixed forest comprising rimu,
rata, tawa, kohekohe, tawhero, &c., with moderately thick
undergrowth of supplejack, fern, nikau, mahoe, &c. Soil fair
to good second-class quality of a light sandy nature, on sand-
stone formation; well watered by streams. Situated sixteen
miles from Marakopa—eight miles and a half formed road, re-
mainder bridle-track along coast; or twenty-three miles from
Awakino, of which twenty miles is formed road, balance un-
formed as yet.

Altitude, 200 ft. to 800 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to
hilly land, covered with stunted forest comprising karaka,

rewarewa, akepirau, flax, &c. Good second-class soil of a
light sandy nature, on sandstone formation; well watered by
Waipapa Stream. Situated seventeen miles from Marakopa,
of which eight miles and a half is by formed road, balance
bridle-track along coast; or twenty-six miles from Awakino
—twenty-four miles by formed road and two miles by track
along coast.

swamp on Section 11; remainder undulating to hilly country,
covered with stunted forest comprising karaka, rewarewa,
akepirau, and manuka. Soil sandy loam of good second-
class quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by
streams. Situated sixteen to seventeen miles from Mara-
kopa—eight miles and a half by formed road, balance coast
track; or twenty-six to twenty-seven miles from Awakino—
twenty-four miles by formed road, balance coast track.

Altitude, 250 ft. to 1,450 ft. above sea-level. Broken
country, covered with heavy mixed forest comprising rimu,
rata, tawa, kohekohe, tawhero, and mangeao, with mode-
rately thick undergrowth of supplejack, fern, &c. Soil of fair
quality, on sandstone formation; well watered by streams.
Situated twenty-three miles from Awakino, ten miles of
which is by dray-road, balance 6 ft. bridle-track.

Altitude, 200 ft. to 1,450 ft. above sea-level. Broken land,
with small flats on Mangatoa Stream, all covered with heavy
mixed forest comprising rimu, rata, tawa, kohekohe, tawhero,

jack, fern, &c. Soil of fair quality, on sandstone formation;
well watered by streams. Situated eighteen miles from Mara-
kopa and twenty-three miles from Awakino by 6 ft. formed
track.

Altitude, 20 ft. to 220 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to
hilly manuka and fern country. Soil inferior clay, on clay
subsoil; not watered; water could probably be obtained by
sinking in gullies. Sections 2, 5, &c., situated eight miles and
three-quarters from Awanui by partly formed rough cart-
road; Sections 1, 6, and 7 situated nine miles and a quarter
from Awanui, eight miles and three-quarters of which is by
partly formed rough cart-road, balance unformed road over
open country.

Altitude, 40 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level. About 20 acres
clay flat with a little raupo, balance undulating manuka
country. Soil inferior clay, on clay subsoil; not watered,
