Altitude, 300 ft. to 1,500 ft. above sea-level. Broken land; covered with fairly heavy forest comprising tawa, rimu, rata, tawai, &c., with light undergrowth of rangiora, raurekau, nikau, supplejack, &c. Soil of fair quality in valleys, inferior on ridges, resting on sandstone formation; well watered by small streams. Situated eleven miles from Opotiki, nine miles of which is by cart-road and two miles bridle-track.

Altitude, 300 ft. to 2,000 ft. above sea-level. Broken country; 240 acres cleared and grassed, but 140 acres of this is now somewhat overgrown; balance of section covered with fairly heavy mixed forest comprising tawa, rimu, rata, tawai, tawhero, miro, and hinau, with moderate undergrowth of raurekau, rangiora, supplejack, &c. Soil of fair quality, slightly sandy, on sandstone formation; well watered by small streams. Situated fourteen miles from Opotiki, seven miles of which is by cart-road, balance bridle-track.

Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.
LIVERPOOL, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-sixth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Altitude, 5 ft. to 300 ft. above sea-level. Hilly to broken forest land; about 10 acres ordinary mixed forest, balance manuka and fern. Inferior clay soil, on papa formation; well watered by stream. Situated about one mile and a half from Opua or Russell by water.

Broken land covered for the most part with fern and tea-tree; gullies contain a small quantity of mixed forest, comprising puriri, taraire, tawa, rimu, &c., with dense undergrowth of nikau, bush fern, &c. Soil of inferior second-class quality, resting on sandstone formation; well watered by small streams. Situated about two miles from Opua Wharf by pack-track.
Rodney County.—Mangawai Parish.

Altitude, from 50 ft. to 150 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to level land; covered with manuka and scrub. Inferior sandy soil, resting on sandstone formation; no surface water on section. Situated seven miles from Mangawai—six miles by formed road and one mile bridle-track.
Whangarei County.—Opunawhanga Survey District.

Altitude, 50 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to broken land, with level patches on spurs; 2 acres swamp, 150 acres scrub land, balance mixed forest comprising totara, rimu, kahikatea, puriri, birch, tawa, taraire, rata, and a few kauri-trees, with light undergrowth of supplejack, kiekie, fern, &c. Soil loam and clay, generally of fair quality; patches of inferior land in open country, and some patches very good, resting on sandstone formation; well watered by streams. Fronting the coast about four miles and a half north of Whananaki Harbour, two miles of the distance being by formed road, balance bridle-track.
Raglan County.—Alexandra Survey District.

Altitude, 500 ft. to 900 ft. above sea-level. Broken land; covered with mixed forest comprising hinau, tawa, rimu, and manuka, with dense undergrowth of supplejack, bush fern, and shrubs. Soil of fair second-class quality; well watered by small streams. Situated five miles from Whatawhata—three miles and a half by formed road, and one mile and a half by unformed track.
Otamatea County.—Hukaterc Survey District.

Altitude, 10 ft. to 500 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land, covered with fern, manuka scrub, and tall manuka; generally ploughable, except 60 acres at the southern end. Soil is generally a good quality of gum land with patches of loam, on clay subsoil; there is a volcanic outcrop of about 12 acres at the south-west corner, very steep and rocky, but of good quality; well watered by streams. Situated five miles and a half from Matakohe by formed road; access also by tidal river, the landing being half a mile from section and four miles from Matakohe or Pahi.

Altitude, 1 ft. to 250 ft. above sea-level. Undulating land, mostly ploughable, covered with fern, manuka scrub, and tall manuka. Soil is a superior quality of gum land, mostly loam, on clay subsoil; well watered by streams and swamps. Situated six miles from Matakohe by formed road or four miles by tidal water.
THIRD-CLASS LAND.
Hobson County.—Te Kuri Survey District.

Altitude, 400 ft. to 550 ft. above sea-level. Undulating to level land, covered with fern and manuka. Inferior sandy soil, on sand and clay; watered by springs and swamp. Situated three miles from Tangaihe Landing on the Wairoa River by bridle-track.
