Situated on the Mangati Road. Access from Waimiha Railway-station, about sixteen miles distant, about twelve miles being dray-road and the balance horse-track. The section comprises a little flat and swampy country on the road frontage, which is cut off from the back by a high steep ridge; at the back of the ridge the land comprises easy to steep slopes, which would make good sheep country. The forest varies from light on the road frontage to heavy at the back, comprising tawa, rata, rimu, matai, kahikatea, tawhero, hinau, pukatea, &c., with a dense undergrowth of raurekau, karamu, mahoe, wharangi, supplejack, kotukutuku, &c. The soil is of very fair quality, resting on a papa formation; the section is well watered.

The sections comprise flat and easy-sloping country along the Mapara Road frontage and towards the centre, while towards the back the land is rather steep. The forest is heavy, comprising tawa, rata, rimu, matai, kahikatea, tawhero, hinau, pukatea, &c., with a dense undergrowth of supplejack, raurekau, kotukutuku, mahoe, ponga, wharangi, &c. The soil is of very good quality, on a papa formation; the sections are well watered.

Situated on the Mapara Road. Access from Waimiha Railway-station, about four miles distant—three miles dray-road and balance surveyed road. There is a rough horse-track from Waimiha to the sections. Section 1 comprises heavy bush spurs, with a valley and fairly large stream running through the centre; the spurs are fairly steep, and the section has a northern aspect. Section 3 comprises flat and easy country to high spurs, running to high ridge on the back. With the exception of a small patch of manuka on the Mapara Stream near the eastern corner of Section 3 the sections are covered with a heavy mixed bush of tawa, rimu, hinau, pukatea, matai, totara, rata, &c., and a dense undergrowth of supplejack, raurekau, mahoe, ponga, wharangi, karamu, houhou, &c. The sections are well watered.

Situated at the junction of the Aramatai and Mapara Roads. Access from Kopaki Railway-station, about seven miles distant, by surveyed road. At present there are horse-tracks from Kopaki and Mangapehi Railway-stations to the sections. The land comprises mixed bush and fern country, rising from flats along the road frontages to undulating and steep ridges at the back; a portion of both sections is ploughable. The forest is heavy mixed bush of tawa, rimu, kahikatea, matai, &c., along the Mapara Stream, with clumps of kahikatea along Aramatai Road; on the ridges towards the north-eastern boundary of Section 3 the bush is light. The soil is good on Section 7, and slightly inferior on Section 3, on rhyolite formation; the sections are well watered.

Section 1 is situated on the Aramatai and Pukerimu Roads. Section 2 on the Pukerimu Road. Access from Kopaki Railway-station, from four to five miles distant, by surveyed road. There is a good horse-track from Kopaki to the sections. The land comprises flat, undulating, rather swampy and easy slopes to high steep ridges; a large proportion of Section 2 is ploughable. What forest there is is mostly light, comprising rewarewa, tawhero, &c, and there are patches of short

fern and scrubby manuka, and the forest undergrowth is mostly supplejack, wharangi, akipiro, &c. The soil varies from inferior to fair quality, on rhyolite, with pumice on the flats; the sections are well watered.

Section 1 is situated on the Pukerimu Road, Section 4 on the Pukerimu and Kopaki Roads. Access is from Kopaki Railway-station, from one mile and a quarter to two miles and a quarter distant, by surveyed road. Section 4 is also accessible from Kopaki by the Paritikona Road, about one mile, by surveyed road. There is a good horse-track from Kopaki to the sections. The land comprises manuka flats and easy fern-covered slopes, with the fairly steep valley of the Mangapehi in the southern part of Section 4; a considerable portion of both sections is ploughable. Part of the land is covered with a heavy mixed forest of tawa, rimu, pukatea, rewarewa, tawhero, &c., and a heavy undergrowth of supplejack, wharangi, raurekau, &c. The soil is fair to good, on a rhyolite formation; both sections are well watered.

Section 5 is situated on the Mapara Road, Section 3 on the Mapara, Kopaki, and Kurakura Roads. Access from Kopaki Railway-station, from four miles and a half to five miles distant, by surveyed road. There is a good horse-track from Mangapehi Railway-station to the sections. Section 5 comprises fairly steep country along the road frontage, but becomes fairly easy from the centre towards the back, where there is an area of ploughable country. Section 3 comprises mixed bush and fern and manuka country, the portion to the north-east being inferior rhyolite, covered with light bush, fern, and manuka, while the south-western portion is much better, being covered with heavy mixed bush. Along the Mapara Stream the land is broken, rising to fairly easy terraces along the Kurakura Road. The forest on both sections varies from light, comprising tawhero, rewarewa, &c., to heavy, comprising tawa, rimu, pukatea, &c., and a dense undergrowth of supplejack, mahoe, ponga, raurekau, &c.; about three-quarters of Section 5 is under fern and manuka. The soil varies from inferior to fair, on rhyolite formation, and the sections are well watered.

Situated on the Kurakura Road. Access from Kopaki Railway-station, about eight miles and a half, by surveyed road, and from Waimiha Railway-station, about sixteen miles and a half—by dray-road for twelve miles, 6 ft. track three miles, and balance surveyed road. There is a horse-track from Mangapehi Railway-station to the section. The land comprises flat to easy-sloping and steep country. The forest varies from heavy mixed bush of tawa, tawhero, &c., in the south-eastern corner of the section, to light bush on the southern boundary, and fern and scrub along the road frontage and back to the centre. The soil is of medium to inferior quality, on rhyolite and papa formation; well watered.

Opening Lands in Auckland Land District for Sale or Selection.
LIVERPOOL, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the Land Act, 1908, I, Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, having received the report of the Under-Secretary in this behalf, as provided by section one hundred and fifty-four of the said Act, do hereby declare that the lands described in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on Monday, the twenty-sixth day of May, one thousand nine hundred and thirteen; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase, or on renewable lease; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.
