HAWAIIAN ISLANDS.
OAHU.—SOUTH-WEST COAST.—BARBERS POINT LIGHT.—
CHARACTERISTIC CHANGED.—Referring to Notice to Mariners
No. 28 (2190) of 1912, further notice is given that on 1st
September, 1912, the characteristic of Barbers Point light,
south-west coast of Oahu Island, Hawaiian Islands, was
changed from fixed white to flashing white, showing 1 group
of 2 flashes every 5 seconds—thus, flash 0·1 second, eclipsed
1·1 seconds; flash 0·1 second, eclipsed 3·7 seconds.
The illuminant was changed from oil to incandescent oil
vapour, and the new light has a luminous power of about
70,000 candles.
Approx. position: Lat. 21° 17′ 58″ N., long. 158° 6′ 32″ W.
BRITISH COLUMBIA.
STRAIT OF GEORGIA.—GALIANO ISLAND.—PORLIER PASS
RANGE FRONT LIGHT.—ARC OF VISIBILITY INCREASED.—The
Canadian Government has given notice that the limits of the
arc of visibility of Porlier Pass Range Front light, Galiano
Island, have been increased, the light now being visible east-
ward of the line of range over an arc of 68° from 196° 30′
to 264° 30′.
Approx. position: Lat. 49° 0′ 32″ N., long. 123° 35′ 5″ W.
VANCOUVER ISLAND.—CORDOVA CHANNEL.—ROCK RE-
PORTED.—The Canadian Government has given notice that
Commander Henry Pybus, R.N.R., master of the yacht
“White Cloud,” reports having struck a rock of small ex-
tent, with a least depth of 4 ft. over it, surrounded by depths
of from 3 to 5 fathoms, in Cordova Channel, east coast of
Vancouver Island, on the bearings—
Zero Rock beacon, 119°.
Mount Douglas, summit, 178°.
Note.—This rock will be known as Pybus Rock.
Approx. position: Lat. 48° 32′ 48″ N., long. 123° 20′ 56″ W.
CHATHAM SOUND.—HUDSON BAY PASS.—ROCK REPORTED.
—The Canadian Government has given notice that a rock
of small extent, with a least depth of 2 ft. over it, surrounded
by deep water thickly marked by kelp, has been discovered
in the eastern portion of Hudson Bay Pass, Chatham Sound,
British Columbia, in (approximately) latitude 54° 30′ 21″ N.,
longitude 130° 48′ 30″ W.

CALIFORNIA.
SAN LUIS OBISPO LIGHT.—CHANGE IN CHARACTERISTIC.—
On 10th September, 1912, the characteristic of San Luis
Obispo light, California, was changed to flashing white every
20 seconds.
Approx. position: Lat. 35° 9′ 39″ N., long. 120° 45′ 37″ W.
SAN FRANCISCO BAY.—RINCON POINT.—INCREASED DEPTH
OVER ROCKS.—BUOYS TO BE DISCONTINUED.—Information
has been received that the two rocks lying 500 and 900 yards
respectively eastward from the Pacific Mail Dock, Rincon
Point, San Francisco Bay, California, have been removed to
a least depth of 35 ft. at the mean of the lower low waters.
The inner of the two rocks is marked by a red-and-black
horizontally striped nun buoy, and the outer one by a red-
and-black horizontally striped gas-buoy.
About 15th October, 1912, both the above buoys will be
discontinued.
Approximate position of Rincon Point: Latitude 37° 47′
30″ N., longitude 122° 23′ 8″ W.

Reillumination of Kottoi Lighthouse.
NOTICE is hereby given that the light at Kottoi Lighthouse,
Toyora, Province of Nagato, which was temporarily dis-
continued, is now shown as before.

CASTLEPOINT LIGHT.—EAST COAST, NORTH ISLAND.

Wellington, N.Z., 4th December, 1912.
NOTICE is hereby given that on or about Wednesday,
1st January, 1913, a second-order incandescent light
will be exhibited from a white lighthouse on Castlepoint.
The light will be a group flashing light with three white flashes
every 45 seconds. The arc of visibility will cover approxi-
mately 180° from about N. 12° E. (magnetic) to S. 12° W.
The height of light is 170 ft., and should be visible for a
distance of 19½ miles.

Defining River and Extended-river Limits for Timaru.
IN pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
conferred upon me by section 189 of the Shipping and
Seamen Act, 1908, I, Francis Marion Bates Fisher, Minister
of Marine, do hereby define the Timaru limits within which
restricted-limit steamships and ships propelled by gas, oil,
fluid, electricity, or any mechanical power other than steam,
and to which restricted-limits certificates are issued, may
ply to be those set forth herein, and I do divide such limits
into river and extended-river limits.
River Limits.—Inside the Timaru Breakwater.
Extended-river Limits.—Within a radius of three miles from
the outer end of the Southern Breakwater.
Extended-river Limits for Fishing-boats only.—Within a
radius of twenty miles from the Breakwater.

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.
Mines Department,
Wellington, 18th April, 1912.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.)
per pound will be paid on the production of the first
one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000 lb.) of good
marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities,
from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions,
that is to say:—
-
That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on
or before the 31st March, 1914, and the remaining two-thirds
on or before the 31st March, 1915. -
No bonus will be payable until the whole of the one
hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has
been produced as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer
to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose
certificate alone the bonus will be paid. -
In the event of more than one person producing the
required quantities of quicksilver before the dates named,
inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if
it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus,
the amount will be divided in proportion to the quantities
produced by each applicant, but in no case shall any bonus be
paid until at least one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.)
of quicksilver has been produced in the aggregate.
