The total births in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs amounted to 758, against 646 in August—an increase of 112. The deaths in September were 249—an increase of 4 as compared with last month. Of the total deaths, males contributed 136, females 113. Fifty-three of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 21·29 per cent. of the whole number; 42 of these were under one year of age.
There were 81 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs, as against 93 in August. The following table shows the classification :—
