upon payment of an entrance fee not exceeding 5s., upon a written or verbal application, without ballot or other election, and to continue a member upon payment of subsequent contributions not exceeding 6d. per week.

(c.) The names of all workers so engaged shall be given by the employer to the secretary of the union when asked for by him.

(d.) Nothing herein contained shall prevent the continued employment of workers now in the employment of any employer, although such workers may not be or become members of the union.

Dispute Committee.

  1. (a.) As soon as practicable after the coming into operation of this award a committee shall be appointed, consisting of two members appointed by the master bakers, two members appointed by the operative bakers, and the Inspector of Awards for the time being in office in the district, who shall act as chairman of the Committee.

(b.) All disputes arising between the workers’ union and any employer as to the interpretation of any of the provisions of this award, or the proper classification of any employer or employees of any employer who is a party to this award, shall be referred to the said committee for settlement, and the decision of such committee in each and every case referred to it shall be final and binding on all the parties interested in such dispute.

Board and Lodging.

  1. Workers may be boarded and lodged on the employer’s premises at a rate not exceeding 15s. per week.

Strikes.

  1. (a.) The union shall do all in its power to prevent any strike by any of the workers affected by this award, and if any strike shall occur in which any members of the union shall take part such strike shall be prima facie evidence that the union has committed a breach of its duty hereunder.

(b.) If any strike by any of the workers affected by this award shall occur in which any members of the union shall take part, then the operation of all the provisions contained in the foregoing clauses of this award shall be suspended, and in lieu thereof the following provision shall come into force and shall remain in force until the further order of this Court, that is to say: The hours of work, wages, and other conditions of work of all workers coming within the scope of this award shall be fixed by agreement between the employer and the individual workers employed by him.

(c.) The Court reserves leave to any party bound by this award to apply to this Court for an order under this clause declaring that a strike has taken place, or bringing into force again after a strike has taken place the provisions contained in the foregoing clauses of the award.

Employment of Females.

  1. No female to be allowed to work at the pastrycook trade other than packing of cakes and cleaning of fruit.

Scope of Award.

  1. This award shall apply only to employers carrying on business as bakers or pastrycooks in the Poverty Bay portion of the industrial district, which is defined to be all that portion which lies on the south-east side of a line starting at the East Cape and carried along the dividing range until it meets the boundary between the Northern District and the Wellington District.

Term of Award.

  1. Two years, to commence as from 1st November, 1912.
