Notice of Intention to take Land in Block V, Otamatea Survey District, for Road Purposes.

NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, to execute a certain public work, to wit, the construction of a road in Block V, Otamatea Survey District, and for the purposes of such public work the land described in the Schedule hereto is required to be taken. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Batley, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the execution of the said public work or by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the execution of such public work or to the taking of such land, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works, at Wellington.

Election of Member of Canterbury Land Board.

PURSUANT to section 41 of the Land Act, 1908, and the regulations made thereunder, I, Charles Robert Pollen, Returning Officer for the election of a member to the Canterbury Land Board, do hereby declare

to be duly elected a member of the Land Board for the Canterbury Land District, only one valid nomination having been received.

Te Makarini Scholarships, held at Te Aute College, Hawke's Bay.

TWO scholarships of the yearly value of £35, tenable for two years, are offered for competition. One of these scholarships, to be called the senior scholarship, is open to all Maori boys not over sixteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination: the other, to be called the junior scholarship, is open to all Maori boys under fourteen years of age at the end of the month preceding the date of the examination who have attended a Native school or schools under the control of the Education Department, and whose attendance at school during the previous year is considered by the Inspector of Native Schools to have been satisfactory. The scholarships are open to Maori boys on the conditions laid down in the regulations of the Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholarships Fund, as printed in the Appendix to the Native Schools Code, 1908. The examination will be held at convenient centres on the 9th and 10th of December, 1912.

Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers, send notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education Department, Wellington, of their intention to present themselves for examination. Such notice must be posted so as to reach the Department not later than the 28th of October, 1912.

Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be obtained from teachers of Native schools and boarding institutions, the Secretaries to Education Boards, or the Secretary for Education, Wellington.

Notice of Vesting of Land in the Public Trustee under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II, Unclaimed Lands).

WHEREAS I, the undersigned, the Public Trustee, have, for the purposes of Part II of the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (relating to unclaimed lands), made due inquiries with respect to the land described in the Schedule hereunder, and the owner thereof, and have, in respect of the said land, given the notices prescribed by section 66 of that Act, and have in all respects complied with the provisions of that Act pertinent hereto: And whereas I have not thereby ascertained who the owner is, and believe that such owner is not in the Dominion, nor has such owner established his title to the said land, as required by the said Act: I hereby give notice that the said land is, under and by virtue of the said Act, vested in the Public Trustee as aforesaid, as from the date of the publication hereof, and will be administered under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908; the value of the land for the purposes of section 67 (d) of the said Act being less than £100.

SCHEDULE.

All that parcel of land containing by admeasurement 50 acres, more or less, being Allotment 106, Parish of Te Puna, Cook County, in the Provincial District of Auckland. The land was Crown-granted to ROBERT INGLIS, late Private in 1st Regiment, Waikato Militia, who cannot now be traced.

Notice by the Public Trustee under the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II).

To the owner of the following land, that is to say: All that parcel of land in the Provincial District of Nelson containing by admeasurement 28 acres, more or less, being part Section 6, Block VI, Totaranui Survey District. The land was Crown-granted to one JOHN FRASER, of Awaroa, Sawyer, deceased, whose personal representative cannot now be traced.

WHEREAS the Public Trustee has instituted inquiries, and has not thereby ascertained who the owner of the above-described land is, and believes that such owner is not in the Dominion:

Now, the Public Trustee hereby calls upon such owner, within six months of the date of the publication of this notice in this Gazette, to establish to the satisfaction of the Public Trustee his title to the said land; and if he fails or neglects so to do, the Public Trustee will exercise the powers and authorities granted to him in and by the Public Trust Office Act, 1908 (Part II).
