Notice of Acceptance of Complete Specifications.

Patent Office,
Wellington, 12th June, 1912.

COMPLETE specifications relating to the undermentioned applications for Letters Patent have been accepted, and are open to public inspection at this office. Any person may, at any time within two months from the date of this Gazette, give me notice in writing of opposition to the grant of any such patent. Such notice must set forth the particular grounds of objection, and be in duplicate. A fee of 10s. is payable thereon.

The copies of claims and extracts from the specifications and drawings are merely intended to give some further indication of the invention than is disclosed in the title, and the complete specifications and drawings should be referred to for a description of the invention.


No. 29597.—3rd July, 1911.—WILLIAM MAXWELL, care of Caledonian Hotel, Napier, New Zealand, Engineer. Improvement in pneumatic tires.*

Claim.—A pneumatic-tire protector, comprising a sheath of leather or fabric with metal plates or discs attached thereto in such a manner that they are not rigid.

No. 29629.—29th May, 1911.—WILLIAM MUIR NELSON, of Christchurch, New Zealand, Tramway Board Engineer. Improvements in or relating to tramway-cars.*

Claim.—(1.) In tramway-cars of the class described, constructing the car-body with the side pillars on both sides arranged coincidently with the roof-sticks, and with a groove formed in the side face of each pillar, arranged in a continuous line, with a groove formed in the side face of the corresponding roof-stick, and with the groove in the side pillar on the other side of the car, and flexible blinds extending across between the pillars and fitted at their edges to slide up and down within the grooves in the pillars and in the roof-stick, substantially as specified.

No. 29663.—2nd June, 1911.—FRANK VICTOR RAYMOND, of Invercargill, New Zealand, Solicitor. An improved apparatus for obtaining fibre and squeezing juices from fibrous plants.*

No. 29735.—17th June, 1911.—CHARLES GODFREY WHITAKER, of Christchurch, Engineer, and MALCOLM ARCHIBALD MCKENZIE, of Hamilton, both of New Zealand. An improved releaser for milking-machines.*

Claims.—(1.) In milking-machines, a milk-releaser consisting of a receiving-tank adapted to be connected with the milk-pipe and having a connection constructed to make connection between the tank and a source of vacuum or with air at will, a discharge-opening formed in the bottom of the receiving-tank, and a gravity valve normally closing such opening, in combination with a measuring-tank arranged beneath the receiving-tank, substantially as specified. (2.) In a milk-releaser for milking-machines comprising an airtight receiving-tank adapted to be connected with the milk-pipe, a two-way valve having a port entering the tank, and ports connected respectively with vacuum and with air and so constructed that either of such latter ports may be arranged in connection with the port leading to the tank while the other is cut off therefrom, substantially as and for the purposes specified.

No. 29738.—19th June, 1911.—JAMES LYALL, of South Dunedin, New Zealand, Fitter. Improvements in the lids of tins and other receptacles.*

Claims.—(1.) Improvements in the lids of tins and other receptacles, characterized by this: that the lid is normally held closely on the tin by springs, and is attached to a swinging bail, substantially as described. (2.) Improvements in the lids of tins and other receptacles, consisting of arms, such as 9 and 10, extending on each side of the lid, said arms having downwardly extending lugs, such as 15, 16, acting as guides, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

No. 29765.—23rd June, 1911.—JAMES WILLIAM THOMPSON, care of Conaghan Bros., Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. Buttermaker. Butter-pat cutter.*

Extract from Specification.—Butter is placed on a marble block. The butter is then cut into the portions or weights required by means of two devices having cutting-wires maintained tight by piano-pegs. One of the devices is adapted to make vertical cuts at right-angles to each other, while the other device makes both a vertical and horizontal cut. The horizontal cutting-wire is adjustable while all the vertical cutting-wires are set. The stop is adapted to keep the butter from shifting on the marble block while the horizontal cuts are being made.

No. 29885.—18th July, 1911.—WILLIAM THOMAS FOWLER, of Te Rou, Marlborough, New Zealand, Farmer. Improvements in or relating to reaping-machines.*

Claims.—(1.) The combination with a reaping-machine, of a cutter arranged to extend vertically from the outer end of the main cutter-bar, and with its cutting-edges extending forwardly in the line of travel of the machine, and means whereby the knives of such cutter may be actuated by the travel of the machine, substantially as specified. . . . (3.) In reaping-machines, a table extending from the rear of the main cutter-bar and curving in behind the rear of the machine and provided with a raised outer edge, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

No. 29912.—24th July, 1911.—JOHN JAMES RAYNES, of Rukuhia, Waikato, New Zealand, Farmer. Improved water-heater.*

Claims.—(1.) An improved water-heater comprising a U-shaped pipe inserted in the exhaust-pipe of an internal-combustion motor, substantially as set forth. (2.) A water-heater comprising a U-shaped pipe secured to a gland or strap and inserted in the exhaust-pipe of an internal-combustion motor, the said strap being clamped upon the exhaust-pipe and made watertight therewith, as set forth.

No. 29952.—2nd August, 1911.—WILLIAM CHARLES RICHARD CANTELIN, of Okaiawa, New Zealand, Farmer. An improved construction of water-wheel.*

Claims.—(1.) A water-wheel formed by a pair of annular plates arranged parallel with a space between and attached to the outer ends of spokes radiating from a central hub, and floats or buckets formed by plates bent into approximately U form secured between such plates, substantially as specified. (2.) The improved water-wheel constructed substantially as described and explained, and as illustrated in the drawings.
