Entries for Junior National Scholarships and Junior Free Places, and for the First Examination of pupil-teachers, must be made through the principals or head teachers of the schools attended, and will be received by Secretaries of Education Boards not later than the 16th September, 1912. Junior Scholarship and Junior Free Place entries received after that date can be accepted only with the consent of the Education Department, which, if satisfied in any special case that there has been reasonable ground for the delay, may allow not more than seven days of grace.

Late entries for the First Examination of pupil-teachers can be accepted only under conditions applicable to the Intermediate Examination.

Entries for the Civil Service Junior and Intermediate Examinations will be received by the Inspector-General of Schools, at Wellington, until the 16th September, 1912, or, with a late fee of £1, until the 23rd September, 1912.

Entries for the January examinations will be received by the Inspector-General of Schools, at Wellington, until the 15th October, 1912, or, with a late fee of £1 in addition to the ordinary fee, until the 31st October, 1912.

For Scholarship and Free Place entries, and for entrance to the First Examination of pupil-teachers, no entrance fee (other than late fee) is payable.

All entries must be made on the proper forms, which may be obtained later from the office of any Education Board or of the Education Department.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Reserve in Westland Land District for Lease by Public Auction.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Hokitika, 1st June, 1912.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned reserve will be offered for lease by public auction for a term of twenty-one years at this office, at 11 o’clock a.m., on Wednesday, the 31st day of July, 1912, under the provisions of the New Zealand University Act, 1908.


SCHEDULE.

WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT.—UNIVERSITY ENDOWMENT.

RESERVE No. 26, Block IV, Mahinapua Survey District: Area, 5 acres; upset annual rental, £2.

Description of Reserve.

The reserve is situated on the South Spit Road, about a mile and a quarter from Hokitika Post-office, from which it is accessible by good metalled road. The land is wholly covered with scrub and bush, from which the timber of commercial value has been removed. The soil for the most part is of a sandy nature, somewhat wet in places. Fisherman’s Creek, which traverses the reserve, provides good outfall for drainage.

Terms and Conditions of Lease.

  1. One half-year’s rent at the rate bid, together with lease fee (£2 2s.), must be deposited on the fall of the hammer.

  2. Possession will be given on the day of sale.

  3. Term of lease, twenty-one years.

  4. Rent payable half-yearly, in advance, on 1st January and 1st July. Penalty of 10 per cent. on amounts overdue.

  5. Lessee to keep all buildings, fences, drains, &c., in repair, and to keep watercourses clear from weeds.

  6. Lessee not to assign or sublet without consent.

  7. Lessee to keep land clear of noxious weeds.

  8. Lessee not to remove gravel or injure surface without consent.

  9. Lessee not to engage in any noisome or offensive trade.

  10. Lessee may, with consent, effect improvements, for which he will be entitled to compensation at end of term to extent of the then value as assessed by arbitration.

  11. Right to minerals reserved to the Crown.

  12. Lease liable to forfeiture if conditions violated.

  13. If lease forfeited, lessee not entitled to any compensation for improvements.

WESTLAND LAND DISTRICT.

RESERVE No. 213, Block VII, Otira Survey District: Area, 39 acres and 10 perches; upset annual rental, £1 10s. Weighted with £239 11s., valuation for improvements consisting of house and outbuildings, clearing, grassing, fencing, and orchard.

Description of Reserve.

Reserve 213 is situated adjacent to Aicken’s Railway-station, on the Greymouth–Otira line. It comprises stony land of moderate quality, carrying some birch bush.

Terms and Conditions of Lease.

  1. A half-year’s rent at the rate bid, together with £1 1s. lease fee, and in addition thereto the amount of the valuation for improvements, must be paid on the fall of the hammer.

  2. Possession will be given on the day of sale.

  3. The lease is subject to termination by the Governor at any time after not less than twelve months’ notice as to the whole or any part of the reserve required for any public purpose upon payment to the lessee of compensation to the extent only of the value of the improvements then existing upon the whole or portion so resumed.

  4. No conditions are imposed as to residence or improvements.

  5. The rent shall be payable half-yearly in advance.

  6. The lessee shall have no right to sublet, transfer, or otherwise dispose of the land comprised in the lease except with the written consent of the Commissioner of Crown Lands first had and obtained.

  7. The lessee shall prevent the growth and spread of noxious weeds, and shall with all reasonable despatch cause the same to be removed.

  8. The lessee shall discharge all rates, taxes, and other assessments that may become due and payable.

  9. The lease shall be liable to forfeiture in case the lessee shall fail to fulfil any of the conditions of the lease within thirty days after the date on which the same ought to be fulfilled.

NOTICE is hereby given, in pursuance of section 326 of the Land Act, 1908, that Section 38, Block II, Maruwenua Survey District, containing 17 acres 1 rood, will be disposed of under section 129 of the said Act on or after Friday, the 6th day of September, 1912.
