Claim.—(1.) Process for the production of single charges of explosive material or the simultaneous production of a number of such charges, characterized by the fact that the explosive charge is prepared ready for use in the bore-hole after the blasting-chamber has been closed, and is exploded by a special igniting-device. No. 30417.—26th October, 1911.—PAUL LOUIS CROWE, a citizen of United States, residing at 47 Montgomery Street, Jersey City, State of New Jersey, United States of America, Engineer. Stoker mechanism.

Claim.—(1.) The combination of a furnace, a chain grate mounted to operate in said furnace and having the front end portion extending outside the furnace, the chain grate provided with stationary bearing at its rear end and movable bearing at its front end, and air-excluding casing enclosing the front projecting portion of the chain-grate, and provided with slot for the reception of said movable bearing and in which said bearing may be adjusted, wedge-plates interposed between said furnace and said movable bearings, said bearings and wedge-plates serving to close the slot and adjust the bearing to take up the slack of chain, and means for feeding fuel to grate. Improvements in or connected with milk-straining.

Claim.—(1.) In improvements in or connected with milk-straining, and in combination, a receptacle having in its bottom a delivery-hole, a lower portion and an inclined portion, a lower strainer, a filtering-medium, and an upper strainer being retained within the upper portion of the said delivery-hole by a fastener. No. 30465.—29th November, 1910.†—ORLANDO JOSEPH WILLIAM HIGBEE, of Bridgeville, Allegheny, Pennsylvania, United States of America, Glass-manufacturer. Improved vacuum-wall receptacle and process of manufacturing the same.

Claims.—(1.) A hollow-wall glass receptacle, provided with a vacuum-chamber in the wall of the body thereof and having a solid neck. (2.) A hollow-wall glass receptacle composed of an inner bottle and an outer bottle containing between them an enclosed vacuum chamber, the neck of the receptacle being a laminated structure formed by the necks of the two bottles fused together for substantially their entire common length. Claims.—(1.) A gas-stove comprising, in combination, a plurality of superposed chambers provided on each side with a flue or flues or the like through which part of the gases of combustion from a burner or burners in one of the chambers is adapted to pass to the uppermost chamber and thence to the chimney, substantially as and for the purpose set forth. Extract from Specification.—The pole is in two parts, one slidable longitudinal in relation to the other, the top and bottom of the poles of the tents being connected by wires which limit their distance apart and maintain them parallel. A system of guys and pulley-blocks is employed. (Specification, 3s. 6d.)

Claims.—(1.) A process for developing a design of blended colours or tints in glassware which is characterized by the feature that an article is formed of two or more different coloured or tinted layers of glass varying in thickness along the lines of the design to be developed, and is then subjected to an evenly applied disintegration process until the colour or tint of an underlying layer of glass is exposed through and softly blends with the colour or tint of the partially removed overlying layer. (Specification, 5s. 6d.)

No. 30483.—10th November, 1911.—THE WOLSELEY SHEEP-SHEARING MACHINE COMPANY, LIMITED, of Sydney Works, Alma Street, Aston, near Birmingham, England, Engineers, and ARTHUR ERNEST BREWERTON, of 60 Torbay Road, Brondesbury, London, England, Electrical Engineer. Devices for starting, controlling, and protecting electric motors.

Extract from Specification.—This invention consists, as to main features thereof, in means which ensure, in an improved manner, that when the motor has been switched on resistance will remain in circuit until the speed of the armature has increased, and the current in the circuit consequently decreased, to a predetermined amount, and that when this point is reached the resistance will become automatically short-circuited; and in means which ensure that in the event of the load becoming excessive the increased current will cause resistance to be brought in and remain in until the current in the circuit decreases to the predetermined amount above referred to, when the resistance will be automatically short-circuited. The above objects are effected, according to an important feature of this invention, by means of a movable iron member which is acted upon magnetically by a solenoid. (Specification 19s.)

Extract from Specification.—According to the present invention we provide one cue-tip only, and instead of arranging the main spring behind the cue-tip rod and adapting it to propel the said rod directly we fasten one end of said spring to an operating member or draw-rod and the other end to the cue-tip rod which is projected on the release of the said operating member or draw-rod by the gathered momentum of the spring, and its impact on closing up and abutting on the cue-tip rod or by the impact of the draw-rod on the tip-rod. Other features of our invention are that the main and buffer springs are both on one side of the operating member, and that we provide means for preventing the inward movement of the cue-tip rod. Claims.—(1.) For the purpose indicated, an applicator consisting of a curved metal plate upon the end of a stem adapted to be secured to a vibrator instrument, substantially as specified, and illustrated in Fig. 1. (2.) For the purpose indicated, the applicator consisting of the side-arms secured upon the end of the stem, each arm having a pad at its outer end adjustable by a screw and lock-nut, substantially as specified, and illustrated in Fig. 2.
