Notice of Acceptance of Complete Specifications.

COMPLETE specifications relating to the un-
dermentioned applications for Letters Patent
have been accepted, and are open to public inspec-
tion at this office. Any person may, at any time
within two months from the date of this Gazette,
give me notice in writing of opposition to the grant
of any such patent. Such notice must set forth
the particular grounds of objection, and be in
duplicate. A fee of 10s. is payable thereon.
The copies of claims and extracts from the speci-
fications and drawings are merely intended to give
some further indication of the invention than is
disclosed in the title, and the complete specifica-
tions and drawings should be referred to for a
description of the invention.
No. 28540.—5th October, 1910.—FRANK VICTOR RAYMOND,
of Invercargill, New Zealand, Solicitor. Improvements in the
treatment and utilization of vegetable matter from Phormium
tenax.
Claim.—(2.) In the treatment of the vegetable matter
of Phormium tenax, a process comprising the following steps :
Extracting soluble and extractable matter by adding water
and heating or boiling it, straining material for the purpose
of removing the solid matter, then separating the gum from
the liquid according to their specific gravities, substantially

Claim.—For the purpose indicated, a sheet of antiseptic
material having an opening the rim of which is blocked to
produce a curved flange, and a flap integrally formed with the

Improvements in and relating to closures for cans.*
Claim.—In closures for cans, the combination with an
internal flange in the lower part of the opening, of a removable
disc or wad of absorbent paper taking a seating on said
flange, and a cover capable of being forced down on said disc
or wad, substantially as described and as illustrated.

REGISTER COMPANY, LIMITED, a company duly incorporated
under the Companies Act of New Zealand, and having its
registered office at Woodward Street, Wellington, New
Zealand (assignees of Charles Bristow, of Christchurch, New
Zealand, Engineer). Improvements in cash-registers.*
Claims.—(1.) In a machine of the kind described, a feed-
roller brake consisting of a shoe pressed upon the roller near
its middle by a screw, as set forth. (2.) In a machine of the
kind described, a feed-roller brake consisting of a shoe carrying
friction-rollers and pressed upon the roller near its middle by
a screw, as set forth. (3.) In a machine of the kind described,
an upper feed-roller carried in a frame pivoted upon the
machine, and set-screws locking the frame, as set forth.

PRESTON, of 4 Dunham Street, Stockport, Cheshire, England,
Engineer. Improvements in galvanic batteries.
Claim.—(1.) A construction of galvanic-battery cell
wherein an effective sealing of the cell is dependent only upon
the compression of a disc of expanding material between
the carbon element and a top or cover plate to form simul-
taneously air- and liquid-tight joints round the wall of the
container and between the expanding disc and the carbon
and zinc elements and their terminals, substantially as
described. (Specification, 5s. 6d.)

Electrician, and GEORGE HENRY WEEDMAN, Electrical Fitter,
both of Mount Morgan, Queensland, Australia. Mine-alarm
instrument.
Claims.—(1.) A mine-alarm instrument comprising two or
more members slidably connected so that when they are set
movement of ground overhead necessarily causes terminals
to contact and thus operate telegraphic or other alarm
signals. (2.) A mine-alarm instrument comprising two or
more members slidably connected, in combination with a
stand, such as a tripod, having a ring and thumb-screw for
the purpose of adjusting the standard members higher or
lower as required. (Specification, 3s. 3d.)

Helensville, Neidpath Road, Mornington, Dunedin, New
Zealand, Commission Agent. A non-poisonous, non-corrosive
compound for the protection of iron, steel, wood, brick, and
stone work.*
Extract from Specification.—This invention consists in the
mixing together of raw or boiled linseed-oil in proportion as
follows : Priming coat, 3 of oil to 1 of cement ; No. 2 coat,
2 of oil to 1 of cement ; No. 3 coat, 1½ of oil to 1 of cement ;
No. 4 coat, 1 of oil to 1 of cement. (Specification, 1s. 6d.)
