No. 30674. — 28th December, 1911. — LESLIE HAROLD
FRIEDMAN, of 268 Albert Street, East Melbourne, in the State
of Victoria, Commonwealth of Australia, Clerk. Improve-
ments in typewriting-machines.
Extracts from Specification.—The primary object of this
invention is to automatically return the carriage, at the end
of each line written, to a predetermined starting-point, and
to also automatically move the paper-roller a predetermined
amount, without any interruption. . . . A feature of the
invention is that the mechanism for returning the carriage au-
tomatically may be easily and speedily disengaged, permitting
the machine to operate as an ordinary typewriter, the paper-
roller turning-mechanism, however, still remaining operative.
Another feature of the invention is the use of but one tension-
spring to move the carriage in both of its direction of travel.
The tension of the spring, further, is maintained automatically.
The invention is applicable to existing machines, with but
little alteration, and ensures a continuous and uninterrupted
execution from the first line typed to the last upon the sheet.
(Specification, £1 6s.)
[NOTE.—The above extracts from the specification are inserted in place
of the claims.]
Copies of drawings may be obtained at the uni-
form price of 1s. each. In exceptional cases this
price may be increased at the discretion of the
Office.
An asterisk (*) denotes the complete specification of an
invention for which a provisional specification has been
already lodged. A dagger (†) denotes a prior date upon
the International and Intercolonial Arrangements.
NOTE.—The cost of copying the specification has been
inserted after the notice of each application. An order for
a copy or copies should be accompanied by a post-office
order or postal note for the cost of copying.
The date of acceptance of each application is given after
the number.
Extracts from the drawings accompanying the foregoing
complete specifications appear at the end of the Gazette.
