Notice of Acceptance of Complete Specifications.

Patent Office,
Wellington, 29th November, 1911.

COMPLETE specifications relating to the undermentioned applications for Letters Patent
have been accepted, and are open to public inspec-
tion at this office. Any person may, at any time
within two months from the date of this Gazette,
give me notice in writing of opposition to the grant
of any such patent. Such notice must set forth
the particular grounds of objection, and be in
duplicate. A fee of 10s. is payable thereon.

The copies of claims and extracts from the speci-
fications and drawings are merely intended to give
some further indication of the invention than is
disclosed in the title, and the complete specifica-
tions and drawings should be referred to for a
description of the invention.

No. 28762.—23rd November, 1910.—CARL NEFF, of 19

Mechanic. Improvements in and relating to the treatment
of liquids.*

Claim.—A process of treating hard water consisting in
causing the same rapidly to travel in frictional contact with
an extensive uncompacted bare surface of aluminium from
which the oxide coating has been removed, whereby the fine
particles of aluminium or aluminium-hydrate are separated
from the plate and are continuously carried away by the
water, substantially as described. (Specification, 3s. 6d.)

CHINERY COMPANY
, of Paterson, in the State of New Jersey,
United States of America, a corporation duly organized under
the laws of said State of New Jersey, carrying on business as
Shoe-machinery Manufacturers, and having a place of business
at 205 Lincoln Street, Boston, in the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts, in said United States of America (assignees
of Benjamin Franklin Mayo, of Salem, Essex, Commonwealth
of Massachusetts aforesaid, Inventor, and Euclid Israel La
Chapelle, of Beverly, Essex aforesaid, Inventor). Improve-
ments in or relating to grippers.*

Claims.—(1.) In a gripper's mechanism, means for gripping
a shoe-upper, and means for gripping a shoe-lining, said
mechanism being constructed and arranged to cause the upper
to be gripped with greater force than the lining is gripped.
. . (5.) In a gripper's mechanism, a rigid jaw, movable
jaws upon opposite sides of the rigid jaw, means for yieldingly
actuating one movable jaw toward the fixed jaw, and means
acting in a relatively unyielding manner to press the other
movable jaw against the fixed jaw. . . . (10.) In a
gripper's mechanism, means for separately gripping two super-
posed portions of stock and pulling the stock, comprising a
plurality of gripping-members, one of which is arranged to
move relatively to another in the direction of the pulling-
strain while the stock is under tension. (Specification, 16s.)
