NOTE.—The weather has been bright and sunny, with the rainfall considerably below the average for October. Total bright sunshine, 245 hours 10 minutes, averaging 7 hours 55 minutes per day; two sunless days. Frost was recorded on one morning. Earth temperatures rose at 1 ft. from 51° to 54°, and at 3 ft. from 52° to 54°, during the month, and the average temperatures at these depths were 53·1° and 53°, which is one degree less than last year, although the sunshine was this year ninety-two hours longer. Mean dew-point, 42·7°; mean elastic force of vapour, 0·274 in.; and mean relative humidity, 67 per cent.
