Locality and Description.

Reserve 3374 is situated at Mount Somers, about a mile eastward from the railway-station of that name, and comprises level land of fair quality.

Terms and Conditions of Lease.

  1. Tenders should be addressed to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Christchurch, and indorsed on the outside “Tender for Lease of Reserve.” One year’s rent at the rate offered, together with £1 1s. lease fee, must accompany each tender.

  2. Possession will be given on acceptance of tender.

  3. Possession of the land comprised in the lease, or any portion thereof, may be resumed at any time by giving to the lessee twelve months’ notice of intention so to do.

  4. The lessee shall have no right to compensation either for any improvements that may be placed upon the land, or on account of the aforesaid resumption, or, for any other cause, but he will be allowed, on the expiration of his lease, or in the event of the land being resumed as hereinbefore provided, to remove any fencing or buildings erected by him upon the land.

  5. The lessee shall have no right to sublet, transfer, or otherwise dispose of the whole or any portion of the land comprised in the lease, without consent.

  6. The land shall be used for grazing purposes only, and shall not be broken up or cropped without the written consent of the Commissioner of Crown Lands first had and obtained.

  7. The lessee shall destroy all rabbits on the land, and shall prevent their increase or spread, to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

  8. The lessee shall prevent the growth and spread of gorse, broom, and sweetbriar on the land comprised in the lease; and he shall with all reasonable despatch remove, or cause to be removed, all gorse, sweetbriar, broom, or other noxious weeds or plants as may be directed by the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

  9. The lessee will be required, during each of the first three years of the term, to thoroughly clear of gorse and other noxious weeds not less than one-third of the area comprised in his lease, so that the whole of the area shall be thoroughly cleared at the expiration of the third year of the term, and thereafter be kept clear during the remainder of the term.

  10. The rent shall be payable half-yearly in advance, free from all deductions whatsoever.

  11. The lease shall be liable to forfeiture in case the lessee shall fail to fulfil any of the conditions of the said lease within thirty days after the date on which the same ought to be fulfilled.

Small Grazing-run in Wellington Land District open for Application.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned small grazing-run is open for lease; and applications will be received at this office and the Gretna Hall, Taihape, on Tuesday, the 31st day of October, 1911, up to 4 o’clock p.m., under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

LOCALITY AND DESCRIPTION.

This run is situated on the slopes of the Ruahine Ranges, at the head-waters of the Makino Stream; access is from Utiku, which is about seventeen miles distant, by a formed dray-road for about fourteen miles, partly metalled—the remainder is bridle-track. The run comprises about 600 acres of mixed bush on easy slopes, and remainder rough birch country and open country, with tussocks and weeds, on which snow lies during the winter months. The soil is from fair to good, on papa, sandstone, and shell-rock formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rimu, maire, matai, kowhai, and birch, with a thick undergrowth of rangiora, kotukutuku, manuka, tarata, tawhiwhi, and tupari. Well watered by small streams. Elevation ranges from about 1,850 ft. to 4,600 ft. above sea-level.

Sale of Milling-timber, Auckland Land District, by Public Tender.

NOTICE is hereby given, in terms of the Land Act, 1908, and the regulations thereunder, that written tenders will be received at the District Lands Office, Auckland, from the proprietors of existing sawmills and logging contractors, up till 12 o’clock noon on Monday, 30th October, 1911, for the purchase of the kauri and other milling-timbers standing on the undermentioned lots.

469 matai-trees, containing approximately 393,082 sup. ft. (standing measurement).

Upset prices: Totara and matai 1s., rimu and kahikatea 7d., per 100 sup. ft.

Terms: One-fifth in cash within fourteen days after acceptance of tender, one-fifth in seven months, one-fifth in fourteen months, one-fifth in twenty-one months, and one-fifth in twenty-eight months thereafter.

Defective and undersized trees, branded F.R. Λ, not included in this sale—viz., 32 rimu, 46 totara, 85 kahikatea, and 212 matai.

Time for removal: One year.

Upset prices: Totara and matai 1s., kahikatea 7d., per 100 sup. ft.

Terms: Cash within fourteen days after acceptance of tender.

Defective and undersized trees, branded F.R. Λ, not included in this sale—viz., 17 totara, 37 kahikatea, and 25 matai.

CONDITIONS.

  1. Intending tenderers are expected to visit the locality and to satisfy themselves in every particular on all matters relating to their tender.

  2. The aforementioned quantities, qualities, and kinds as to the said timber shall be taken as sufficiently accurate for the purpose of this sale, and no contract for purchase
