Note.—The weather during the month has been bright and sunny, while the rainfall was considerably below the average for August. Total bright sunshine, 170 hours 23 minutes, and three sunless days. Frosts occurred on nine mornings. The mean earth-temperature at 1 ft. was 49·3°, and 50·4° at 3 ft. Mean dew-point, 37·4°; mean elastic force of vapour, 0·224 in.; and mean relative humidity, 64 per cent.
