PACIFIC OCEAN.
WAKAYA REEF.—On 1st July, 1911, the F. white lt. in 17° 41½′ S., 179° 43′ E., on the S. end of the reef, was to be altered to show from S. 31° W., through W. and N., to N. 81° E., obsc. elsewhere, elev. 70 ft., R. 14 miles, exh. from a white hexagonal lt.-h. on black piles, 84 ft. high. July.
MAPIA ISL.—The islet marked “Islet, reported 1900, 15 ft. high,” in 2° 4′ N., 135° 35′ E., about 100 miles N.-erd. of Mapia Isl., has been expunged from the Admiralty charts, as it is not considered to exist. July.
Notice fixing Closing-hours of Drapers’ and Mercers’ Shops in the Borough of Westport under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the drapers’ and mercers’ shops in the Borough of Westport, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, at 6 p.m.; Thursday, 12 noon; Saturday 9 p.m.; further providing that if a whole holiday fall on a Saturday, Friday night to be observed as the late night, closing at 9 p.m.: And whereas the Westport Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops carrying on business as mercers and drapers, combined and separately, within the Borough of Westport:
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 18th day of September, 1911, all drapers’ and mercers’ shops, combined and separately, in the Borough of Westport, shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops in the Borough of Carterton, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: At the hour of 8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays; at 8.30 p.m. on Wednesdays; 1 p.m. on Thursdays; and 11 p.m. on Saturdays: And whereas the Carterton Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the hairdressers’ and tobacconists’ shops within the Borough of Carterton:
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 18th day of September, 1911, all such shops in the Borough of Carterton shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Booksellers’, Stationers’, Fancy-goods Importers’, and Bicycle-dealers’ Shops in the Borough of Westport under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the booksellers’, stationers’, fancy-goods importers’, and bicycle-dealers’ shops in the Borough of Westport, has been forwarded to me, desiring that all such shops in the borough shall be closed in the evening of working-days as follows: At 6 p.m., with the exception of Saturday, which shall be 10 p.m.: And whereas the Westport Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops carrying on business as booksellers, stationers, fancy-goods importers, and bicycle-dealers, combined and separately, within the Borough of Westport:
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 25 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1908, do hereby direct that, from and after the 18th day of September, 1911, all booksellers’, stationers’, fancy-goods importers’, and bicycle-dealers’ shops (combined and separately) in the Borough of Westport shall be closed at 6 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; at 1 p.m. on Thursdays (the statutory half-holiday); and at 10 p.m. on Saturdays.

Notice of Intention to take Land in Blocks II and VI, Opoiti Survey District, Wairoa County, for the Preservation of Scenery.
NOTICE is hereby given that it is proposed, under the provisions of the Public Works Act, 1908, the Scenery Preservation Act, 1908, and the Scenery Preservation Amendment Act, 1910, to take the land described in the Schedule hereto for the preservation of scenery. And notice is hereby further given that the plan of the land so required to be taken is deposited in the post-office at Tiniroto, and is there open for inspection; and that all persons affected by the taking of the said land should, if they have any well-grounded objections to the taking thereof, set forth the same in writing, and send such writing, within forty days from the first publication of this notice, to the Minister of Public Works, at Wellington.
