Old Post-office Site, Kaitangata, for Lease by Public Tender.

NOTICE is hereby given that written tenders will be received at this office up to 5 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 31st day of July, 1911, for a lease of the undermentioned land under Part I of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908.

SCHEDULE.

The old post-office site at Kaitangata, being all that parcel of land containing by admeasurement 2 roods 24 perches, more or less, and being Sections Nos. 6 and 7 of Block XXX. Bounded on the north-east by Sections Nos. 12 and 13; on the south-east by Sections Nos. 3, 4, and 5; on the south-west by Exmouth Street; and on the north-west by Sections Nos. 8 and 9. Occupation to commence on the date that the post-office business is transferred to the new building.

Term: Fourteen years.

Conditions: Fences to be kept in good repair, and land to be kept clear of noxious weeds.

Notice of Date of Examinations.

Education Department,
Wellington, 26th April, 1911.

NOTICE is hereby given that a Civil Service Junior Examination will be held in November, 1911, beginning on or about the 20th day of the month; that a Junior National Scholarship and Junior Free Place Examination will be held on or about the 30th November and 1st December, 1911; and that a Civil Service Senior Examination and an examination for teachers’ certificates of Class C and Class D will be held in January, 1912, beginning on or about the 5th day of the month.

With the Civil Service Junior Examination will be taken the Intermediate Examination, being the Special Examination for senior free places in secondary schools and district high schools and the First Examination of pupil-teachers.

With the Junior National Scholarship Examination will be taken the Junior Free Place Examination (including the examination for junior free places in technical schools).

Entries for Junior National Scholarships, Junior Free Places, and the First Examination of pupil-teachers must be made through the principals or head teachers of the schools attended, and will be received by Secretaries of Education Boards not later than the 15th September, 1911.

Entries for the Civil Service Junior Examination and Special Examination for Senior Free Places will be received by the Inspector-General of Schools, at Wellington, until the 15th September, 1911, or, with a late fee of £1, until the 22nd September, 1911.

Entries for the January examinations will be received by the Inspector-General of Schools, at Wellington, until the 30th September, 1911, or, with a late fee of £1 in addition to the ordinary fee, until the 16th October, 1911.

All entries must be made on the proper forms, which may be obtained later from the office of any Education Board or of the Education Department.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned small grazing-runs are open for lease, and applications will be received at this office up to 4 o’clock p.m. on Monday, the 28th day of August, 1911, under the provisions of the Land Act, 1908.

Run 187.—All hills, of fairly good quality; about one-quarter good, but broken, limestone country; fully two-thirds under inferior birch forest and scrub; about 800 acres of good, well-grassed limestone land on north face of Whernside Range. Altitude, from about 200 ft. to 3,500 ft. above sea-level. Access up Kekerangu Stream, which is generally rough. Well watered.

Run 188.—All bush- and scrub-covered hills; the back portion is broken, but about five-eighths is high limestone land, which should carry grass well when cleared. The homestead-site is accessible only up the Kekerangu Stream bed. The timber is generally light birch and soft scrubby trees. Altitude, from 100 ft. to about 4,000 ft. above sea-level. Well watered.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned reserve will be offered for lease by public auction at this office at 11 o’clock a.m. on Friday, the 1st day of September, 1911, under the provisions of the Public Reserves and Domains Act, 1908.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF LEASE.

  1. One-half year’s rent, the lease fee (£1 1s.), and rent for the period from the date of auction to the 31st December, 1911, must be paid on the fall of the hammer.

  2. Immediate possession will be given.

  3. The lease will be for a term of fourteen years from the 1st January, 1912, but subject to termination by twelve months’ notice in the event of the land being required by the Government.

  4. The rent shall be payable half-yearly in advance on the 1st January and 1st July in each year, free from all deductions whatsoever.

  5. The lessee shall not sublet, transfer, or otherwise dispose of his interest in the lease without consent.

  6. The lessee shall have no right to compensation, either for improvements he has put on the land, or on account of the aforesaid resumption, or for any other cause; but he may, on the expiration or sooner determination of the lease, remove all buildings and fences erected by him, but not otherwise.

  7. The lessee shall destroy all rabbits on the land, and shall prevent their increase or spread, to the satisfaction of the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

  8. The lessee shall prevent the growth and spread of gorse, broom, sweetbriar, or other noxious weeds on the land comprised in the lease; and he shall with all reasonable despatch remove, or cause to be removed, all noxious weeds or plants, as may be directed by the Commissioner of Crown Lands.

  9. The lease shall be liable to forfeiture in case the lessee shall fail to fulfil any of the conditions of the said lease within thirty days after the date on which the same ought to be fulfilled.
