The total births in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs amounted to 588, against 589 in March—a decrease of 1. The deaths in April were 198—a decrease of 62 as compared with last month. Of the total deaths, males contributed 102, females 96. Forty-three of the deaths were of children under five years of age.

There were 71 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards in the four chief cities and their suburban boroughs:—
